Matrix / Evox Problem
« on: November 09, 2002, 03:19:00 PM »

Hi. I posted my question in this forum because I believe it is the mod chip that is causing the problem.

I have a Matrix mod chip that I flashed using wmilk with the regular Evox 2.5 bios. I installed the Matrix, alligned it, and put it into the always on mode (1st switch off, 2nd switch on.) My Xbox boots up with the same animation as it did without the mod chip, but I understand that should be the case if there are no special color mod features on the bios I got. I had a few problems flashing the chip, but after trying it a couple of times it finally flashed/verified it.

Anyway, I made an xISO of EvolutionX_beta_1.8.2812 and burned it at 2x using Nero and a Memorex CD-RW. It didn't load. I tried a Verbatim CD-RW, it didn't load either. So I went out and got the EvolutionX_beta_1.8.2812 Dummied Premade ISO, tried another Verbatim CD-RW, it didn't load either.

So I tried something else. I put my computer's DVD drive into my Xbox, and tried all 3 CD-RW again, using methods 1 and 2 as described in the tutorial. That didn't work. Then I tried using a TDK CDR to burn the xISO, and used another TDK CDR and just burned the evox.ini and the default.xbe straight onto the disk. Neither of those worked either.

This leads me to believe that there's something wrong with my modchip flashing. Now I'm out of ideas, and I have a few questions.

1. Is it normal for my PC not to be able to detect a CD if it was burned using the xISO feature?

2. Should I get a color mod bios and see if that works, so I can visually see that the bios isn't the problem?

3. Should I try tweaking my Xbox DVD drive?

4. Should I try different brands of CD-RWs? I heard Maxells work the best.

5. Should I try to flash my Matrix using WIN-LPC instead of wmilk?

Any kind of help/suggestions would be very appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
