Matrix Or Media Problem?
« on: October 20, 2002, 09:42:00 AM »

I got my Matrix late last week and for the past few days I've been trying to boot to EvoX (and games and apps) on CD-RW. I flashed the Matrix successfully and verifed and installed it correctly (Mode 2, solid green). I even re-flashed and re-installed the chip (3 times), but I still can't boot to EvoX on CD-RW!!!

I tried 3 brands (Memorex, Maxell & some old cheap brand) and still couldn't boot.

I even tried the PC DVD-ROM drive (Toshiba SD-M1402) to boot and it still didn't.

Every single time I try to boot from CD-RW I get the "Your Xbox can't recognize the disc." error message.

I'm not sure if it's the Matrix or the CD-RWs that's causing the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas or solutions on this problem???

Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx in advance

DiGiTY,
It's still possible that it's the media your using!  Some folks here have had good luck with Memorex CDRW's, but I couldn't use them at all.  I've heard some good things about Sony CDRW's so you might want to give them a try.  I'd personally stay clear of cheap media! Let's recap! So you've successfully flashed the bios, installed the chip in mode 1, gotten the green light, switched into mode 2, and can't boot any CDRW's.  If all those previous install steps went successfully, it can only be media or chip.  I'm still leaning toward a media issue.  My suggestion is to try a few more brands of CDRW before giving up! After posting I thought of two more possibilities, one being how your burning the CDRW's, and that your definitely burning ISO's images to CDRW?

First try to record audio discs on your CDRWs and see which ones your Xbox will read and rip the audio from.   Then you'll know which CDRWs to use.  I had a hell of a time getting a CDRW to boot EvoX.  Finally got 1 to work after days of trying different methods and cds.  I've got it booting off the hard drive now so all is good smile.gif

I'll try the audio on CD-RW trick and more media.

It possibly could be how i'm burning the ISOs. I burn with Nero and RecordMax. I do notice this weird thing where some of the burned CD-RWs can be read by xISO and some don't.

I'm assuming the ones read by xISO are burned correctly and the ones that can't the read are burned incorrectly... am I right???

Steady green flashing in mode two does NOT mean your chip is aligned.  Only test in mode one, then switch modes.  Then reinstall hard drive/cd tray carefully.

It was a Matrix problem, it wasn't aligned correctly (Mode 2 doesn't indicate incorrect alignment like SirLuck and wischmi2 mentioned).

Now I have a new problem... After getting flashing green on Mode 1 (correct alignment) and then switching to Mode 2, Xbox boots then cuts off, then boots then cuts off again, then boots for a 3rd time with no video, startup screen and flashing orange and green on the eject button.

Any ideas???

P.S. - Audio on CD-RW works without modchips

Nevermind. FINALLY boots!!! It was a bad BIOS problem. I'd imagine a bad BIOS won't flash successfully and verify, but whatever....

Finally some action.....

ok Im at the same point. Matrix install is good, (green flashing in mode 1 and solid green in mode 2/3) aswell as a orange xbox logo when booted. however I cant get the damn thing to boot evo-x iso. i've tried verbatim, memorex, maxell cdrw's and fuji cdr's with no sucsess. i've tried rebooting the damn thing forever on each brand. I have the 'dummied' iso from xbins ftp, so i asume no problems there, and have used both nero and primodvd to master the disc. i do not have access to a dvd burner (unfortunatly), so im thinking if i hook up my pc-dvd (toshiba in slave) and burn the files as a normal iso will this work? Im running out of idea's here!!!

anyone? any tips suggestions?!?!
