Exodus Mod Problem
« on: October 03, 2002, 05:43:00 AM »

I have one of the first releases of the xbox.
I purchased the exodus mod chip and installed it.
Its flashed with evox 2.5 and I have EvolutionX_beta_1.8.2594 installed as well.
Everything was working fine. I then installed media player
and now my xbox will not stay on. It reboots continously.
It came on and stayed on once and I removed the media player just for the sake of it. Still only reboots...over and over. The modchip stays green and blinks with the machine.
The front eject light blinks green and sometimes red.
Any help would be appreciated!

Okay , quite simple to test whats going on .. firstly try putting the mod into mode 3 (switch 1 On switch 2 Off) .. and then turn on .. if the xbox stays on and the mod`s led is red then you have a problem with the installation . I recommend removing the mod and cleaning both the LPC pads on the xbox and the gold pogos on the mod chip , and try reinstalling ... it also doesn`t hurt to reprogram the bios into the mod .

It doesn't seem to be an overheating problem. It won't stay on long enough to heat up. I will check the install and clean the surfaces and
let you know. Hopefully it will be something simple.

I removed the mod. Cleaned all contacts. I reflashed the chip.
I reinstalled the mod. It green lighted. I connected the drive back up
everything looks good, but it still just keeps resetting...over and
over. The dvd drive will not open. The box will not stay on long enough
to do anything.
Any help?!?!?!??!?!?!?

*update*

I removed the chip from the box.
It will now stay on and the drive will eject.
It comes up with please call xbox customer support.
I am sure its because the the original dasboard is "missing".

I double checked the switches. I have 1 and 2 on when installing.
After it green lights, i turn switch 1 off, I then put the dvd and hd back in and connect them and try to boot up...but still nothing
just resets.

i have a 300 dollar paper weight right now...ARRRGGGG
hehe

okay point of logic ....

the xbox boots from it`s original bios .. correct ?

The chip harware must be correct because the programmer can program the chip therefore the LPC bus is up and running fine .

The only two possible problems are:
One of the nine pogos connecting to the xbox are not contacting properly , ( check closely some xbox`s don`t have some of the LPC points filled in)

The bios you are using is corrupt or crashing for some reason .. try a new bios all together, even an original to see if you getting the same results.

Hmmmm......I have a feeling you did something to your evo.ini file in your dashboard.  Reburn the EvolutionX software and try that.

It looks like you guys were right.
It seem to be a corrupt bios.
I reflashed with a completely different bios
and it fired right up!
Thanks for the help guys!

If your box came up with evox the first time then the bios wasn't bad.  I had the same type of problem getting the xodus chip up and running the first time.

It turned out to be how tight the chip was screwed in.  to mush pressure must pull ever so slightly the pins on the lpc.  I kept getting the red/green boot problem and had to slowly tweak back the tightness on the screw and reboot between each step until it finally came up.  Yes I had a green light on the xodus chip the whole time.

256k.Evox2.5.err.colormod.evox.bin
was the file name
i got it off irc.
As for the bios not being corrupt suggestion,
I am not sure but all indications pointed to that.
I tightened, loosened, moved, turned, fondled,
tickled that mod seven ways to sunday before
reflashing. Who the heck knows what the problem
was. It drove me crazy though!

Does this trick really verify whether the MatriX was installed correctly?

Thanks!
