Guess we will have to just sit and wait to find out what they are up to. I would think if it is indeed real that it uses the same points as the X-ecuter with the screw by the horshoe to torque the chip down ontop of the LPC points.

As far as the 2nd grounding point, well it could be based off of the alternative bottom point using the mobo to keep it connected. However with the recent LPC bridged connections revelations, this seems like it will have the same problems as a soldered chip.

Now as far as it being flashable from the Dvd-Rom I would be worried of the ability of this mod to be easily detected by MS through a simple BIOS check and end up with a whiped BIOS after the game boots. Hey just paranoid here, but this thing seems so goddamn strange.

I may just be old school now it seems, but solder is guaranteed to work when you do it right!

yeah exactly, and u would have to flash it with evox, but wouldnt u have to still solder the 2 jumpers to enabling flashing?, if it was that easy y would they be offering the other method of programming?

hey imagine it was connected to the IDE cable and crap, we gotta wait for the unexpected, i dont think its an executer with springs

One reason why I have the same opinnion is cuz it isn't possible to flash the tsop with an xecutor.. yet with the matrix it will be possible...

It looks to be a 'clone', I use that term losely, of the X-ecuter mod, if you study the layout it uses the same points as the X-ecuter, however instead of sodering there are already pads that just rest on top of the area, then through the screw hole you just screw it on to both attach the solder point and hold it in place, if you look right below the main chip, that's a place to fix a switch.  It's definitly a lot easier to install.  But nicley this chip is flash upgradeable and uses the plug in the upper right to attach to the program chip.  It's gonna be great, and to all you people that wonder if it's gonna be compatible with the new kernel, No, unless someone releases a BIOS that works with it and can still use the same attachment points.

Guys look close. The connector on the left side of the picture is the LPC bus. You will still need to solder it to the mainboard. The black header on the right is where a cable will be connected to let you flash the chip on board. This cable will have a DB25 connector on the other end that will be connected to the parallel port on your PC. It is not zero solder if you have to attach it to the LPC bus!

I would guess you are right about disabling the mod. Both switches take lines to ground but can't tell which lines they are.
BTW: I can't imagine that this thing is going to use some kind of pressure device to attach the pins to the LPC port or the single solder point. It would be unreliable and prone to problems.

I'm guessing the 2nd switch is to disable write access to the bios?  That would rule out the previous idea about MS having games wipe out the chip

hrrmm
personally id like a solder chip with the same PBC layout as the x-cuter 1.1
that looks very nice and neat to solder on!!!

but have the finish of the matrix chip, where can flash the bois and stuff easily.
