Evox M8+ 1.6 is the only 256kB BIOS for a 1.6.

nope...it's perfectly normal...the voltage wire on the LPC rebuild is always on, so the light on the chip will always remain on

just to state whats already been said lol..
the led light on the chip is always on even when the xbox is off.. "provided the power is connected"
and M8+ bios is the one to use..
if the chip comes with m8 already installed then you need to update it to the m8+ thats on heimdals xbox engineering disk..
the m8's they supply on the chips will boot just fine but dont have properl LBA48 support.
the m8+ on heimdals disk has LBA48 support so re flash with that..

I know the m8+ on heimdalls xbox states that its only for 1.6 xboxes, but seems to work on 1.2-1.6 .. havent tested it on 1.0/1.1 But i assume it should work on those as well if it works on 1.2-1.6

There are two separate versions of Evox M8+. One works on 1.0-1.5 Xboxes, the other on 1.6 Xboxes. They aren't interchangeable.

On HeXEn they are all in the BIOS folder:

evox.m8plus.bin
evox.m8plus.fc.137.bin
evox.m8plus.v16.bin
evox.m8plus.v16.fc.137.bin

The first two are 1.0-1.5, the last two are 1.6 only.

The only BIOS I am aware of that will work on all Xbox versions is Frosty's BFM BIOS, manually edited by Frosty to make it work that way, and used in Frosty's Rescue Disc and HeXEn. The problem is that you can't flash it, because it is a BFM BIOS.

i just flashed the 1.6 only 256k M8+ bios from your hexen disk to a aladdin chip on a 1.2 box...
and it works fine.. "and i mean literaly seconds before i made my post in here"

for some reason i didnt think the m8+ was in the 1.0-1.5 bios flash section so i didnt even bother looking in that option..

i wonder why the discrepancy.

all i know is these chips i have come with m8 and no lba48 support so ihave been updating them with hexen... and i have been using the 256k 1.6 only bios

has been working on 1.2 - 1.6 for me but i havent tried it on 1.0/1.1
Strange that it works if its not suposed too.
i also thought it shouldnt have worked but i had some 1.6's i could reflash the chip with if it didnt so i just tried it..

i wonder if its more of a tsop issue.. as i wouldnt flash m8 to a tsop any way and would probably use IND instead.

Not likely - the chip/TSOP is just a dumb holder for the BIOS.

This is interesting. I suspect that Frosty might know something about it, and you may be right that it's only the 1.0/1.1 that won't work with the 1.6 version - but that makes no sense either. The video encoder chip was Conexant for 1.0-1.4, Focus for 1.4-1.5, Xcalibur for 1.6, so if it works for a 1.2 it should work for a 1.0/1.1, unless there is an incompatibility in the memory map of the Kernel for the 1.0/1.1.

I feel a bit more digging is required.

to be fair I cant say i have used it on a 1.4/1.5 with focus chip eiter..
(i may have i just dont remember)

But having said that if i had a 1.4 with focus chip i would have had to test the lpc to make sure it wasnt a 1.5..
If i get a 1.4 in il test that as well.
but right now i only have some 1.6's and a 1.2..

i have a nother 1.2 on the way some time.
and i also have 2 unknown black consoles coming and a 1.6 crystal..
although after talking to some one the other day it seems there are 1.4/1.5 crystals about too.. i had never seen one before but the pictures he sent dont lie. and the mfr date was about 1month before official release data and 1 day before the common held date of switch over to 1.6..  it was definatly a 1.4/1.5
so you never know i could be able to test it sooner rather than later.
but i have a feeling the console he had was a display moddel for showing off the console/design when they were anouncing it.. (although mfr date is about 2 weeks after inital anouncment so its really confusing)

i should also test it with some of the duo chips i have i guess but i dont want to open those untill some 1 requests i install one.

If it works in a 1.2 it should work in a 1.4.

Crystals are 1.4 or 1.6. I have one of each.

I doubt you'll ever see a 1.5

Good to know , i hadnever ever saw a crystal that was not 1.6..

Yeah I have to agree one of the Evox bioses will work on all xbox versions, I do not remember the exact name but it had worked on every xbox version I tried it on. I normally just had it on a chip so if I had to replace an HDD it made things easier. I think I had posted about this before but I can not remember.
