Dual Layer Recording
« on: October 04, 2003, 11:08:00 PM »

Hello,

can anyone suggest if its better to wait for this to bring out new recorders or can I buy a DVD burner now ? Has anyone found information if actual burners will be able to burn on dual layer recording  media ?

thanks in advance...

Not even factory DVD making machines (dunno what they're called) can make a dual layer disc in one go. They essentially make two discs that are later glued together.

There have been a few discs where the glueing was screwed up and mis-aligned making the movie freeze during the layer change.

Trust me, there will probably never be available dual layered DVD burners for the entire lifespan of the DVD format.

dont wait for the dual layer burners just yet or u will miss out on a lot of stuff.
get your self a burner that does + and - R now and wait for the dual layer to drop in price in dont buy one as soon as they come out.

phillips and now pioneer r working on dual layer format so some compatition between them should bring prices down fast :)

PHillips dvd+r 9
Pioneer dvd-r 9

Edit philiips say they doing +r
on the cdr info site they mention dvd-9 all the time but i would of thought they would be +r too not -r
