Yet More Aladdin Xt Questions

I've been wading through all the posts and I've seen mixed responses so I'll ask for the 56th time...

I've got an Aladdin XT and EvoX Dash installed. The Aladdin BIOS hasn't been flashed as the version number comes up blank on the evo dashboard.

I've got no problems with anything loading but I'd like to install a bigger harddrive. Can I install a bigger hard disk without flashing the chip or do I need to flash it ?

Can I ruin the chip by flashing it ? My last experience of a modchip was my PS2 that I killed as it had a cheap clone which died the moment you entered the setup on it. I've seen posts that claim holding the power button for 5 seconds enables Flashing and I've also seen posts that say the complete opposite (but I believe holding it enables flashing).

I'm a bit lacking of information about my Aladdin until I get the torx key to open it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Aladdin BIOS does not exist. Aladdin as chip does exist but it uses EvolutionX BIOS as these chips have a 256 KB flashable IC. The version number is not shown as your Evox.ini is not up to date, and cannot identify the MD5 hash info. If the BIOS is M8+ then you can go with any HDD, if the BIOS is older and does not support LBA 48 then you are limited to 138 GB.

You ruined your PS2 chip as it was a clone, you just got what you paid for. (don't buy clones, do not support those thieves !!!) Anyway, there are those missinfomations on Aladdin chips just because there are many clones that work somehow a little "different" than original chips (by the way is there any original Aladdin at all, eh ?) You have to find yourself what type of chip you really have. Boot as normal and try flashing, if no luck, hold for 5 seconds then.
