1st Install Woes...help...
« on: March 13, 2006, 07:19:00 PM »

Well, I grew some nutz today and tried my very first install of a White Duox.. Followed the tuts,  I think, to a "T"..

Here's what's going on..

First time I plugged the box in all I got was the normal xbox boot and the chip was not flashing any lights at all..Took the box apart and repositioned the switch.

Now, I get a frag (red to green) and the chip still isn't flashing any colors at all.

What did I screw up now? blink.gif  It's a v1.4 pinheader install.  I hava  wire running from the DO on the chip to the bottom DO on the mobo..

Wire from BT on chip to alt BT on mobo... > Should this wire be soldered behind the eject button instead?

Somebody help me please, the solder points "look" good even under a magnifying glass..Should I un-solder everything and start over?

Thanks in advace for any/all help...

UPDATE:

I checked the wires. My bottom DO came off, so I resoldered it and I also jumped the BT to "G" on the chip..

Now when I hit the power or eject button, it restarts twice then frags red/green. BUT, I do have a flashing red light on the chip now..YEAH... But now with the flashing chip light, I have no M$ boot, just the frag...

What could be the problem now I ask?

Forgot the mention, when the box first starts to power up, the green led flashes orange I believe, then it shuts down and restarts 2-3 times, then the red/green frag..

I'm going to bed, I'll resolder stuff tomorrow...

You need to resolder the LPC. In fact check all the soldering you have done as this seems to be the cause of the problems you are having.
You will not get MS boot with eject if you leave BT linked to Pin 9 (G) on the chip.
Solder it in one of these places

Thanks Chancer....The LPC was my next project, I had to let it go last night as I have to work today.

Looks like I had the BT in the right spot the first time. I took it off to jump the pad to G thinking it might have been bad.  Oh well, live and learn I guess. This is fun stuff.

I'll update as soon as I can...Hopefully with a happy ending.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Update #2..

I resoldered the LPC, checked the DO point which I desoldered and resoldered again to be sure (It's the bottom point).

Now the box boots like a normal xbox again..No more flashing light...The problem is, the chip isn't flashing either  mad.gif

I've rechecked the pics of the DO, Reconnected the BT on the chip to the BT on the mobo not the eject button and removed the bridge I once had from BT to "G" on the chip..

Any tips out there??  And here I thought I had this all figured out before I started...NOT

Ya... your solder is off.  Check your soldering again as that is your problem.

Can you snap some pics of your soldering? Will help us identify any problem areas.

Also, be sure you're booting up with the power button and not eject if you want the chip enabled wink.gif

After my latest "changes", M$ dash boots normal..

If I boot to the chip I'm getting 2 restarts then red/green frag but the chip IS FLASHING the red light...I guess that's a start.

One more "hint" and I'll have her licked.....I think.. rolleyes.gif

IT'S ALIVE, IT'S ALIVE...

I resoldered everything, except that little freaking dO point I knew it was solid. Moved the BT to eject button and now I have the flashbios screen ready to flash...

Thanks everyone for all the tips...I can't believe my soldering skills have went downhill so bad..

All is good....... biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

Now you understand why we say it was your soldering even though you said it was good....... Because it was.

I was thinking that myself, I used to be able to solder a lot better than what I actually did and I think I just rushed through it thinking everything was good. Once I broke out the magifying glass, I could see my goofs..

Will be flashing the chip tomorrow, hopefully I won't need any help with that.. rolleyes.gif
