Flashing Alladin Xt With M8_16 For Lba48
« on: November 21, 2005, 12:43:00 PM »

Hi everyone,

ok here are the settings,
I have:
-  a 1.6 x-box
- alladin xt mod chip
- evo tool 1.9
- remote flasher
- evoX 2.6

Progress so far:
Installed evoX, swapped hd, everything working ok (well since i did not use the stealth setting the box wont boot with the mod chip deactivated, but thats ok as i am not a live subscriber) but only 137g visible of the hard drive.

The theory
I edit the M8_16 bios on the evox cd via evo tool to activate lba48 save it as 256k, flash it onto my alladin xt via remote flasher and enjoy 300 gig goodness

What really happened:
I'm stuck, the last few days i've been reading through varios sites and forum's trying to get the info i need but to no avail. I cannot get answer to the following q's which i actually think are not to hard, but i havent been able to find them  :uhh:

1 When i try to open the bios.bin from the evo cd i get a 'unsupported kernel' error in evotool. i'm thinking i do not have the correct bios. Which leads me too
1a = is it infact on the evo cd?
1b = if yes, where?

2 since i have no corrected bios to flash this isn't relevant yet, but when i used remote flasher, the x-box was not seen via the 'search x-box' option...very odd as i can ping it, see it on the network (thats how i got the bios on my hard drive) and for instance the rss feed fucntion in media center works too)

After posting this i will continue to look for tutorials and faqs, but help would be much appreciated.

cheers,

Edwin

Do a google for the HackdaBox reflash disc. It contains M8+.16 with LBA 48 etc.
Just boot with the disc and select the flash option you want .
Thats it.

i googled:
results: 1 dead torrent link
and it lead me to xbins, i couldn't find it there either  :huh:

I did however find spider flash, and i read on the hackdabox site it should work with alladins as well. So gathering courage i tried to flash....

Leading to this message
Flash bios
Manufacturers ID 09 Device ID 00
!! Unknown Flash type !!

Errr right, so the spider cd isn't the right choice? Or perhaps i need to enable the writeable mode of the chip (i read something like push and hold power for 3 seconds to enable the flash mode)

once again thanks for any help.

Spiderchip reflash Cd works fine on aladdins !

It can't read your chips bios ?  double check all solderring !

Have a look at the lattice chip , if you see the numbers ...

4032 - then it does not have flash protection !

4064 - It has flash protection , you will need to solder a wire from BT to L1 pads on the chip to disable the flash protection , remove the link after you flash !

I don't think you can edit a bios from a CD, you may need to copy it to your PC 1st (I'm not 100% sure though)

I have not seen this Spider Flash disk but it probably doesn't have the correct rom lines for Aladdin SST chips, you can check by looking at the evox.ini file on the CD and make sure these are there:

Flash = 0xbf61,"SST - 49LF020",0x40000
Flash = 0xbf52,"SST - 49LF020A",0x40000
Flash = 0xdab0,"SST - 49LF020A",0x40000

If it doesn have them then if you installed the chip always One and is an Aladdin XT Pro/4064 then make sure BT is connected to L1 on the chip and not to Pin 2.

Moddingmaniac, i think your on to a winner, the evox.ini from the spider reflash cd does have this line:
# for Aladdin Advance XT and SpiderChip
Flash = 0xbf52,"SST 49LF020A",0x40000

BUT i actually have a non A chip in my x-box!
This is what i got from the identy ya chip option:
LPC based (SST 49LF020)
So the error code does indeed makes sense. (they usually do :)

Adding this should do the trick then.
Flash = 0xbf61,"SST - 49LF020",0x40000

Is it possible to dump the cd on the x-box hard drive and execute from there.
Or is there a smarter way?

/me will check back here tommorow, gotta get some sleep after a working day that started way to early. Thanks ppl :)

(oh as for editing it straight off the cd, i tried both that ((to see if i could load it to mem and then save to HD)) and save to hd and open then, but both methodes failed)

Guys , Guys , Guys ... The Spiderchip Reflash Cd or the HackDaBox Reflash Cd have all known flash types of all popular flashroms so you don't have to worry about editing ini files !

The idea of the Reflash Cd was to take all the work out of flashing and to have a disc that could simply and easily reflash a bios !

No you can't edit anything thats on a cd , you have to ftp it to your computer and then edit it. But no need for anything i make ... It's perfect !

Well my one day turned into a longer wait then i initially tought. Got a nice lil flu so the project was put on hold.
Untill today.
Reading hackdabox's reply i tought i'd gave it one more try. Before i knew it, the flash procedure both started and ended! (makes me wonder what went wrong the first time  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)  )

anyways

I restarted and..........i can still boot  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
My dear non 360 box is still alive and kicking.

Its installing slayer 2.6 as i type this. I'll let you guys know if now i finally have what i wanted, or that some further work is required.

Install is done, full 300 gig available.

All that remains is a big thank you for all the ppl kind enough to help me out.

THANK YOU

And special kudos for HackDaBox for not only a marvellous cd, but also supporting the n00bs like myself.
Cheers!

*runs off to install some games on Hd, and will prolly be back soon for some emu related q's*  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)
