Nope. That's DEFINATELY a clone.

Scratch off the black paint on the flashrom.
Underneath You'll see that it's an ST, not an AMD.

The originals aren't painted with black paint and then stamped. They want you to see the AMD logo on the originals, these guys want to hide the ST logo.

They look like they're from the same production line that mine are.

Note the switch has a rectangular impression - the originals have a circular impression.

Definately a clone.

But they'll work perfectly - just don't try to flash the X2 50xx series onto it.

Its a clone, there is a clone thread on here that I helped contribute too.  Here's a picture of my white clone.  Also it looks like you may want to redo some of your cold solder joints, the top ones dont look soldered very well.

I'm confused about this whole clone thing...

Why are people making clones?
What's the point if they are of the same quality and everything is the same or better except that they can't handle the latest X2 bios's (which would really suck btw)?
Where would you buy one from?
But seriously... what's the point of copying the design of chips and selling them for the same price as the originals? Why not just give em a different layout and a new name and vuala, there's a new chip out in the public for sale...

OK. so where would you attain one of these chips when paying for an original?

Is it basically back and forth through the BST?
Or are there any certain sites or sellers that sell these in bulk without saying anything?

QUOTE(otherguy @ Jun 10 2005, 09:38 PM)
why would it matter which sellers sold the clones in bulk? i'm not seeing the point of your question...
most retailers of the clones advertise them as such... but if a reseller advertises a legit duo X2, you're not going to know if it's a clone or not unless you buy from them... follow?
I don't know about anyone else here, but i dont usually buy chips from every site i can find, i've got a handful of suppliers i stick with because i know they arn't going to rip me off.

Yes, I understand all that. But I wouldn't want to find a great deal on an DuoX2 in the BST and have it advertised as a legit duox2, and buy it to find out that it's a clone and I can't use the latest X2 Bios.

Even though we all tend to stick to our favorite suppliers, if we find a great deal out there, and it seems legit, we're going to go for it.
I don't want this to happen to find out that they are known to sell clones without stating so, especially if this could be avoided by someone simply clicking a reply button in a thread and taking 10 seconds of their time to tell me if they know of any sites/people that have falsely advertised about their Duox2 chips.

And if you knew that there was a specific seller that sells Duox2's in BULK, and a couple people claimed that he has sold them clones, it would become apparent that there is very likely that all of the chips he sells are clones.
As opposed to a seller who has only sold one Duox2, and he doesn't intend to sell any others because it may have been an extra one lying around, and someone claims that the chip was a clone after he sold it to them. That wouldn't help, because it's not like he has a stockpile of them and is going to continue to sell them.

So like I said...
'Are there any certain sites or sellers that sell these in bulk without saying anything?'

Do a search dude - this has been covered.

PS: If you're really interested in the clones, I have a few left (20 or so) which I can sell to you at $11 a piece.

Its is a clone. there is a pic of the genuine thing right at the top of this section. DuoX2 Info pinned post.
Also no offence but the soldering to some of the pins is poor which will not help on installs
