Problem With Link Wire.
« on: March 03, 2005, 11:25:00 AM »

Hello,

Its been a couple years since I have fitted an xbox modchip. Im trying to put my old Homebrew chip in a version 1.1 xbox and Ive got all 32 wires installed. When I turn the xbox on it flashes red/green with the modchip out of the socket. I double checked all my wires and they are good.

Now if I remove the link wire that goes to pin 32 it boots up originals just fine of course the modchip is still not in the socket. So I guess my question is: Do I need the link wire and if so what do you think is causing it not to boot with it soldered in? Thanks for any help you guys might be able to give me.

Jamey

you sure the bios is all set and good thats on the chip. Because it will frag if it cant find a bios or if it's corrupt or whatever else

Edit*

i was reading and you said with the modchip out of the socket. Does it load fine with the chip in the socket. BEcause i think you'd have to have the chip in the socket, because if its not there it cant find a bios and will frag.

Thanks for the reply. I have not used this chip in  a couple years but it worked when I flashed the last xbox. I have another chip I will try and see what happens and I will post back. Thanks again for trying to help ;-)

I've done 300 of these installs you link 5v Vcc to CE on the chip to tristate the tsop. Get  the data sheet for the tsop and read up.

Hippo,

Thanks for the reply. Can you point me to the data sheet on this TSOP? I have my homebrew chip wired in just as the diagram on this site. Im looking at the xbox right now to triple check the wiring.

Im in the process of shortening all the wires to try that. They arent that long, but I have to try something.

I was looking at the homebrew 32 pin chip and I was wondering if anyone knows if pin one is used or not? The diagram doesnt look like its used.

Well ive gone over this wiring about 10 times now and I KNOW its right as far as matching the diagram. I have shortened all the wires to as about as short as possible. It just acts like the chip is not doing what is supose to.
I think Im going to order another chip and try that. Kinda sucks but oh well, that will definately tell me if its my wiring or not.
