Aladdin Xt Lpc Help
« on: January 11, 2005, 09:25:00 AM »

Right, i've looked into a little further and it seems that maybe i need to have the mod chip sat flush with the xbox and solider through the gaps?!

Also, am i totally throwing myself with this pin header or does that have a most useful purpose i'm missing by a mile?

The header pin install is alot easier then soldering the chip straight to the motherboard, plus its easier to remove later down the road.

Might be your BT connection. make sure your chip is connected this way:

BT to the right of resistor R3G3
L1 to the left of R3G5
D0 on the chip to Do on the Mobo

here is a picture diagram of the connections
http://www.modchipst...s.php?pageid=66

Also you mentioned its a 1.4 mobo becuase i'm guessing you saw the Focus Video chip but there might be a tiny chance its a 1.5 xbox, if so you will need to install 2 more wires: pin 2 to ground and pin 9 to a 3.3v (see diagram above)

Ok i've just run a multi-metre from 2 to ground and it's not given an pulse whatsoever... i presume this means i've got 1.5 and i'm going to need to do all that other shizzle?

1.5 mobos are pretty rare so 1st make sure your installation is correct (I would check D0 and BT connections). If you are sure your install is fine then it could be a 1.5 so do this:

Measure if Pin 2 on the LPC-bus is connected to the ground plane (a screw, for example). If its not then its 1.5
OR
Measure 3.3v (LPC pin 9) (xbox must be ON) ... it's dead on a v1.5.

If its a 1.4 xbox and you do the fix it won't fry it.

Try the d0 point on the back of the motherboard. have a look at other diagrams like smartxx , they connect all the lpc fix wires to slightly larger pads on the back of the motherboard.

What are you tlalking about?  He is installing an Aladdin XT on a 1.4/1.5 xbox there is no need to look at SmartXX diagrams, they have a different chip and the only connection they hav in common is the D0...Wires with bigger pads blink.gif?

See if you can still boot with the chip no inserted in the Header pins, if it doesn't then you messed up the D0 connection and you will have to link it o the bottom one, if the xboxes boots fine without the chip then you haven't messed it up so put the chip back on redo BT and L1 and D0.

Does your Aladdin Xt come with the female part of the header pin on the chip already soldered to the chip?

I'm conceeding defeat. It's still not working, tomorrow I will fix it, then the day after when I return to uni I shall pay an expert to do it and while he is doing it I shall go for a beer and smile to myself because someone else will be dealing with my D0 point.

Thanks for all your help, shame we couldn't come to a more positive conclusion but hay-ho, at least nobody died!
