but I get a red eject led. Solid red, no blink. I havent flashed the chip yet, but when i turn it on it does what i said above with a blank screen, no video

You have got something shorted out when you dropped the chip in. Check to make sure the box still works with the chip out before going back through the install you did.
if any of those wires short to the wrong place you will damage the Xbox.

Chancer, if I use the 2x6 header does that eliminate the need for the small wires in the motherboard or does it just solve the LPC problem? I have the board with the covered holes too.

Another person having problems...

Spider 1.1, Xbox 1.6

Installed, hooked up my wires, made sure nothing was crossed.  Tried to boot up and got the normal MS load screen with the chip on OR off.  Realized the LPC pins weren't down far enough with the washer that came with.  I found another washer around the house that fit it much better and the chip sat much better then.  Tried to boot again, loads fine with chip turned off.  Chip turned on I get the 3 loads and flashing green/red on the thrid one problem.  I am 100% sure my wires are in the correct spots, I have checked them about 10 times.  The wired are in the via holes well enough that I can poke at them without the wires coming out.  I am baffled here...I'm about ready to send back and try something else.

This is my first time trying to mod an xbox, is their some well known step I'm missing??  It's supposed to be loading to the cromwell bios according to the Spiderchip website.

I'm right where you're at Thrawn -
First mod, not happy with the spider chip at all. Getting same exact results as you.
It's got to be in the connection of the 5 wires, and I think it's this:
I read about the fact that some 1.6 boards have some of the holes laquered over that you need to push the 5 wires into. The wires seem like they're going in a little way, but I'm not so sure they're actually making a connection. I pulled my board and held it up to the light, you can clearly see that the holes for the A,C and E wires don't go all the way through like the others. People are trying to poke out the holes with a small pin, but I haven't seen any results posted yet. I'm assuming that you could do this and maybe even solder the wires in place if needed, will post if it's successful.

Nevermind the question Chancer, I read a post of yours in another thread that answered my question. Now if I could just get the 5 wires properly connected. I read that you suggested an Alladin chip, think I'll start shopping for one. I have a good iron and know how to use it somewhat, was just trying to avoid soldering as I didn't know what was involved when shopping for my first mod chip.

Well, I do know some of the holes being used are laquered on the other side of the mother board.  Two of my wires don't go very far into the holes but they do go far enough in to stay.  Do I need to get these holes opened up mabye?

That's my best uneducated guess. I've read and read and have found a few people saying that the D and E wires are crossed, but that's not it. I've also read posts questioning whether or not the 1.1 just plain has problems.
I've read all I care to (partly so I don't piss of the mod gods and get flamed right away) and don't have any answers.
Think I'm ready to trash the chip and visit my local 'Game Doctors' to see if they install mods and which one they suggest for my board.

QUOTE(SEViN @ Jan 16 2005, 03:08 PM)
Ok, my friend came over today because I told him I would isntall his spider chip. It seemed easy enough, his Xbox is a 1.0, so it only needed the one wire. The problem is, the blue light comes on indictating that the chip has power, but the damn thing wont boot to the cromwell screen. I've tried it every position possible and made sure everything was in contact, but nothing! I've even tried it without a screw and holding it all down. Oh, and is the BIOS chip supposed to be grey on top and look like someone sanded it with sandpaper so you can't read it?  huh.gif
