Alladin Advance Broke - Green/red Flashing
« on: December 11, 2004, 08:05:00 AM »

Ok I bought the console pre-chipped about a year ago. After a few months I was experimenting, I downloaded an EvoX Bios and flashed my Mod Chip with it... Bad idea i know now. I can't remember what happened after that but it wouldn't boot so i took it upon myself to physically take the mod chip out (ANOTHER great idea of mine) now when i try to boot i get...

1) Solid Green 2 secs (black screen)
2) Powers itself Off (fuzz)
3) Powers itself on (black screen)
4) Green flashing 1 sec (black screen)
5) Powers itself off (fuzz)
6) Powers itself on (black screen)
7) Green/Red consistent flashing (black screen)

Black screen throughout (apart from when its powered off)

I've rung up some mod chip shops around but i really want to give this to someone for Christmas. One shop said no they can't do it till after and one says ring back on Monday. Is there anything I can do myself? From what I understand my EEPROM is broke but i'd need to invest in a cable thingy for that?

Any help/information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

You need to give more info.  Does it have still have the stock, locked HD?  If not then it will not boot the original xbox bios.

What bios did you have originally, and which one did you try to flash to?

If you flashed the bios incorrectly, then your eeprom shouldn't have been affected.

If your mod chip sits on a pin header and was installed to be always on, you could buy another similar chip and pop it on.  You shouldn't need to solder anything (except maby BT to Pin 2 if you get an Aladdin XT).

Yes it does have the standard hard drive in it. I bought it new/chipped so i guess it had original Xbox bios then when the chip got put in it went over to the standard Alladin one? I didnt flash it at all apart from that time and i think i tried to flash it with the EvoX Dashboard or something? I think it crashed half way through flashing too. It was a while ago so it's hard to remember heh. Trying to find my digi cam to take a pic of the chip for you...

Reading your post I think you have the FRAG even though you have removed the chip. Is that correct?
If so you have done some damge to the D0 point or the LPC connections removing the chip so you will also have to repair the board as well as Flash the chip.
Where are you located?

FRAG is Flashing Red and Green.
I can re-flash your SST chip (The one in the socket on the Aladdin). It just pops out by inserting something to gently lever it with into the corner. If you post it to me with a SAE I will flash it correctly and send it back to you. All that will cost you is the price of a stamp. that will make the aladdin serviceable again.
I can also repair the motherboard but I am in Yorkshire so although close you are probably a bit too far away to travel. I can fix the mobo by return of post or try and give you some info via here to fix it yourself.
You are looking at the possibility of damage to some of the print (Traces) where you have removed the chip and will need to repair whatever damage by soldering in bridging wires.
If you want more detail or your SST flashing pm me
