Help! Aladdin Live On 1.6 Xbox Help!

You have to connect the D0 point from the motherboard to either the D0 point on the modchip or strap it to ground.
BT connection on motherboard goes to BT on modchip.

This is the order in which I've tried the D0 and BT.
1. I had the D0 point on the board attached to the D0 point on the chip (with no BT)-Fragged.
2. I added the connection to the BT on the chip to the BT on the motherboard and still no dice.
3. I removed the wire connecting the D0 to the chip and instead soldered it to a pin on the LPC which appeared to be ground (according to the multimeter and this is how it's connected in the picture) Still no dice.
4. I disconnected the BT wire from the chip and instead soldered it to a ground screw (as seen in photo) Still no dice.
What else can I try?

There have been some problems with the live not working off the pinheader on the chip. Solder a header socket into the quicksolder slot and try it with that. It has defo worked for a few people now.
what did you do with Lframe connection either ground or D0 on the chip. the BT connection must be on as well not just one at once

i was in your situation once. my chip turned out to be bad. i dont know what caused it, but i did put it in backwards once and that could have been it. what i ended up doing was doing the lpc rebuild w/the pinheader install. as far as any other wires, i got fed up one day and expiriemented alittle. what i came out with was a wire going from the motherboad (d0) to the d0 on the chip and another wire from the d0 on the chip to ground. it worked so i decided to leave it like that and everythin seems to work fine

Are you f#$%ing serious, you have the lpc plugged into the lcd header of the aladdin chip.  Hopefully you didn't seriously mess up your xbox.  If you seriously need to know how it goes I can put up a picture, you have it upside down and rotated 90 degrees of what it should be.  There is no female pin header on the chip itself for the lpc.  Man you must have smoked about 10 times as much as me today....

HA! Man, I thought about that before I even began installing the chip but why in god's name does it not specify how to connect it ANYWHERE on ANY Aladdin site? Based on this from Aladdinlive.com

How is anyone supposed to know that it's really supposed to be rotated 90 degrees and flipped upside down? What the hell is going on? And if I fried my Xbox... I think I'm going to die inside... If you could post a pic of it installed the RIGHT way on a 1.6 Xbox I would be forever grateful!

I read this thread, and I realised I've not made a cut on the MB near the d0/lFrame. (http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=250154)

Somewhere in the thread, someone claims the cut must be done... Well, when I run out of ideas, I might try that approach.

Langhal1: The Aladdin Live modchip DOES have a female pinheader. It should make no difference if you connect the modchip to the lpc using the female pin header or if you solder it to the lpc (like the aladdin 64).

yeah it does have a female pinheader, for the lcd output, not for the lpc connections, so they are no where near interchangeable.  I'll try to get a pic up short of how it goes.

I have now tested the chip with a multimeter. It should be no difference if you use the female pin header or if you solder the chip to the male pin header on the lpc.

I have never heard of a lcd for the aladdin live chip. But I have a programmer for it which also uses the female pin header.

But if you come up with a picture, we might clear up the confusion.

The aladdin live header socket is not for any LCD output at all. It connects to the programmer and is connected as is the quicksolder socket.
The XT has the optional output for LCD but not through the header socket

wow... until I see langhal's picture I think I'll leave the chip where it is.  Hopefully tomorrow I can correct the BT and the D0 and see if the header socket is in fact OK... man, I knew I was in for an adventure modding my xbox but not one as messed up and confusing as this. Damn these 1.6 boxes...

yeah, I gave up too. After weeks of frustration wiht my 1.6 box my friend installed an aladdin live in his 1.4 box and it took about 15 minutes and works perfectly. I think at this point I'm going to see if I can trade my brand new 1.6 with someone who has an older box and no desire to mod. does the aladdin advance really work better?

Probably not a bad idea.  It took me about six hours to properly get everything set up (a few resolders, etc.) so I could boot from the Super Aladdin Live chip I put on a friend's v1.6 XBox.  It took me less than an hour to get an Aladdin Advance Plus on my old v1.0.  If you can ditch the 1.6 for a good price, I'd recommend Ebay for finding older XBoxes.  Since they're used, and probably over a year old, you'll probably get a v1.5 or earlier - much easier to install.

BTW, I also used the female block directly on the pin header without any problems.  It's not rotated 90 degrees and upside down - it just plugs into the square port on the top, rather than a direct solder to the LPC bus.  And, as Chancer mentioned, it's for reprogramming and quicksolder.  The only LED anywhere to be found is the blue LED that's on the modchip itself.  There was no risk of frying your XBox.
