What AWG is that?  The smallest wiring I could find was 22

No idea - I'm european. That wire is probably 0.30mm (laminated copper), the thickest I ever use for this type of job.

Where can I get some enamelled wire?  I am in ireland  blink.gif

Try your local electronic's store, or maplin.. But generic kynar should do fine.. (solid core wire, pretty thin...

My AppleX-V modchip won't disable. The modchip bios, orange X, loads with the eject button and the power button.

Can amyone tell me how to fix this?

That usually means your d0 is shorted to ground, if d0 is always ground it will always boot the modchip.

From the previous two posts... "um, which is it?"

I thought I'd go ahead and add that I can actually use non-chip BIOS with the power button, but dang... I've gotta be fast!  Really fast!  It's still nowhere near 1-2 seconds to get the ORANGE boot, but I can boot to GREEN with power if I tap it for about 0.000000001 seconds.  A baseball making contact with a bat makes more contact than my finger with the power button to get GREEN.

the official story if is that you only need to really hold for 0.5 seconds to activate.

but saying 1 to 2 seconds ensures that people hold long enough and it does no harm.

I agree though - you must have a short on D0 or D1 to ground - either that or your Power button is sticky and holds itself in after being released...

Check around where you soldered D1 - as being in a cramped area and on surface mount resistors it may be the cause.

You may also have damaged the resistor you soldered to so that the box responds differently to normal...

If I want my xbox to boot up on the chip always, do I need to solder D1?
Is it enough to ground just D0?

Solder d0 to ground directly on the Xbox and do nothing with the d0 and d1 pads on the Apple (do short the two pads to allow flashing though).

And... If I'm soldering this chip on a xbox v1.5, what about GND point?Do I also have to solder it to ground?

tongue.gif  Basically, the Apple X V is booting intermitantly and when it boots to msdash, it always asks for a time reset.  My guess is a short somewhere or loose solder point.  Any help would be much appriciated.  Cheers.

After having checked your soldering at the LPC-points, and it still doesn't work, return the chip to your dealer, or try it in another box.

The problem you describe has been seen with some AppleX Vs and while they _might_ work fine in another box, another chip will probably work fine in yours.

However, you know what I'd like to see?  I'd like to be able to boot to the normal BIOS after holding the power button, and boot the mod chip after just pressing it.  They'd probably just have to change the logic in the chip they're using.  Right now, the only way for me to do it myself would be to flash the TSOP with a hacked BIOS and flash the Apple with a retail BIOS.

I might just have to try that.  It sounds funny though.  It means that the only reason that I had a modchip was to be able to boot the retail BIOS.  Why would anyone buy a modchip just to do that? biggrin.gif

I have installed 2 of these already and have others to do.  I must say, why buy the big expensive chips? These will do all of what the vast majority of people need.  Its simpler than the 2.3's and doesn't have the "old style" switches.  I have a Cameleon in my personal box but I don't use any features other than what this chip provides.  The fact that its preflashed is a bonus.  The sheer amount of "fragging" posts in the executer forum makes me glad I don't deal with them anymore.

Well, that worked without a hitch.  Cool.

I suppose I could also use the mod chip to experiment with different BIOS files before flashing them to the TSOP.
