Applex V

Hello, I've just installed an AppleX V as well, on a 1.1 PAL board.

I'd like to point out something I've found during my installs and ask something:

1) If you're pretty good at soldering, you won't have problems at removing it, I already did. If you keep the chip pressed on the motherboard while soldering you risk no short circuit through the contacts, and while desoldering you can use a desoldering pump to 'suck' the solder away.
BTW I've been installing modchips on PSX and PS2 for a long time, if you've no practice in such activities it's better you use wires or connectors, or even better you have it done.

2) Question: AppleX V bios is 256KB or 1MB? Can I flash it with any 256KB bios, eg. Xecuter2 4979.06 ?

256Kb, reflashable with whatever you want.

Much easier to do D1 on the bottom side if you're not good at soldering.

Do you mean it's much easier to solder to d0 on the bottom of the board?

My question would be WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO FLASH IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?  It's already got great, working BIOS.  What feature do you want that it won't do?

Where do you get pin headers?  Radio Shack doesn't have them.  I don't have an old motherboard to salvage from.

I also agree..

I am a huge fan of the APPLE chips.  I have an AppleX V in mine, and I've installed AppleX v3 and AppleX Pro in my friend's boxes..

I've done many Apple chip installs and never have had a problem.  I do kinda wish that the ALT D1 worked the same as the V3 and Pro chips, but the new D1 is okay.

By the way the ALT D1 does work, but you have to hold down the eject button for 2 seconds instead of the power button.  But that blows, I hate having the tray open up every time I turn my box on.

Also "kcarlen" you asked why one would flash the Apple chip, well because the new 4980 bios prevents you from being a retard and logging onto XBOX LIVE.  That's an awesome feature.  I don't have live anymore, but for some people that's a deciding factor to get a mod chip.

Anyways, I swear by the Apple Chip.  they're great for the people who just like to play their backups and run the Media player and DVD programs.

oh and Apple chip is cheap as hell..  that's awesome!

I have found out by trial and error that by using the ALT D1 the unit does NOT WORK CORRECTLY.

Don't know which point you call "alt d1", but using the correct pin on the underside of the yellow cable connector works just fine.

Really, just put a continuity meter between the suggested spot and that and you know they are equivalent. There's no magic involved here, it's the same signal.

The AppleX Vs are great chips, I highly recommend them.

Listen guys, This link has gone far enough...........

Always cracks me up when someone steps in and tries to decide when a thread should come to an end.  Who are you again?

There are still unanswered questions, such as mine, just about your post that asked "where do I get a pin header?"

Threads are for discussion.  Discussion creates new questions.  I don't ask people to read the entire site before they post, and I realize some of these idiots are asking the same questions over and over... but that's no reason for a thread to end.  Get off your God complex.

(And the reason why we have this thread going on and on is because xbox-scene hasn't got any updated information.  If you go to their chart comparison, I believe they only have the AppleX 2 up there.  This is one of the only useful threads about the AppleX V.  If you support the AppleX V and you think you are a master just because you have installed a whoppin' 4 chips, then continue your support... through this thread.  Many of the posts are coming from people that are thinking about buying the AppleX V.  Again, this is the ONLY useful thread that I have found on the entire net about the AppleX V, and you think it has gone on long enough and should end?  Plus, there is conflicting information.  In the last few posts alone, one person says the alt d1 won't work.  Another said it would.  See why the thread goes on?)

And in regards to the questions about whether this chip supports IGR...

Instead of just saying "mine is working," why not tell us how you did that?  The apple-chip.com website used to list IGR as supported in the chip's feature list.  I noticed this morning that they have changed the webpage, and it no longer says IGR supported.

PolarbearWY, use the search engine and find out where to find the headers.
Better yet, I will tell you since clearly you don't know how to use this discussion board.

Digi-Key is a large supplier of electronic goods.
See them on their website.......www.digikey.com

The 16 position female (socket) header p/n S4208-ND

descrip: CONN HEADER FEM 8POS .1" DL TIN
----------------------------------------------------
The male header (pinstrip) can be any length and then cut down to size with side cutters. Everything is at .1" centers. (standard US)

I got 32 pin headers and cut it down to get 2 strips. (Two 8 pin long 2 pin wide)

The 32 position male header p/n WM6932-ND

Descip: 32 Position Male Breakaway Header

I am sorry that you feel that I am god or something.  I'll get off my god complex.  I'm just like you guys....(except my installs work).  I just think that you guys just need to use the discussion board a little better than what you are.  If you think that xbox-scene docs are crappy, then email them.  I am sure that they will try to do something about it.

If you need any help, don't be afraid to email.

(BTW) You don't know who I am.....but I will give you a hint about designing PCBs for military SGMs.  (Guided somethings)

Well i can say only one thing about these AppleV X Chips, theu work flawless, they are great, cheap already flashed with the right bios and easy to install.

More importantly:

THEY HAVE GREAT SUPPORT.

I mailed them the couple of times regarding some problems with a bad flashed chip (wrong chip in a 1.4 machine). They were helping me with answers that i did not think of. No short answer... no really constructive answers.

And no... i am not working for them.... i just think that a company who has great support even though their price of product are cheap enough, deserves many customers.....
