here's some info on the v1.3

Manufacture Date: 21st March 2003
Serial Number: 4128965 31205
DVD Drive: Philips
Hard Drive: Seagate ST310014ACE
Kernel version: 5101.01
Dashboard version: 4920.01
MCPX X3: FB0308.1 0246D1 (Yes thats right its called X3 lol )
Flash Rom Device: Winbond 49F020T 256k

The easiest way to detect if you have a v1.3 (from looking at the packaging - you dont hve to look at the xbox) - is the serial number

Serial Number v1.2 : XXXXXXX 30205
Serial Number v1.3 : XXXXXXX 31205

QUOTE

Look at digits 8 and 9 (first 2 digits of last 5 digit section):-

20, 21 = 1.0
23 = 1.0 or 1.1
24, 25 = 1.1
30 = 1.2
31 = 1.3

Try posting something in here and see what happens.

Post in the other thread and it will be deleted. I'm not wasting time splitting topics because people can't follow simple directions.

LOL... Well, at least this will give those people a place to go as well.

I was just tired of seeing the other thread cluttered with inane "what is my Xbox" posts.

sad.gif

My questions are (that I haven't seen addressed yet):

1. Can you visibly see that pin3 (LFRAME) is disconnected on the mobo? (I have heard both yes and no)

2. Can you do a continuity test to check the connection of pin3? (I don't think you can or we could just "jumper" it and use any mod-chip)

3. Can you tell by the "Software Version" in the dash? (This was mentioned in a post of mine)

4. Is the serial number helpful in determining if it is a 1.3? (It never has before, but someone mentioned this in my post)

Thanks BenJeremy for starting a single place to ask these questions  wink.gif

QUOTE ({{909}} @ Jun 21 2003, 05:58 PM)
since my post in the other thread ive had a number of emails/pms from people saying a 29wire mod hasnt worked for them, my xbox was def a 1.3 according to ubergeeks "Serial Number v1.3 : XXXXXXX 31205" info, the people askin me for help have all been using newer x2 bios than the one i used, is there any reason a certain bios wouldent work on a 1.3 or are they just doing bad installs? is there any chance i had a 1.2?

Well, a 29-wire mod is kind of tricky... this is "Old School" I guess  laugh.gif but there are a lot of issues using specific FlashROMs and EPROMs. My first one didn't work (EPROM), and I ended up getting a 512K Flash and using that... then I had a small wiring issue... finally everything worked.

Used that until I finally installed an X2 Pro to run the Debug BIOS.

But you'll have to search - check your specific chip in a search to determine if it's likely to work or have issues.

29+ Wire Homebrew mods WILL work on a 1.3 Xbox.

LPC Cheapmods will NOT work.

Hang on a sec, I'm certain I read somewhere that LPC cheapmods (since they're 32-pin) if wired in "29+ Homebrew" mode will work!

Has there been ANYBODY that has tested wiring a SST49LF020 in "29 wire" mode?

Using the v1.2 diagrams of course.

Obviously I can't test this myself since I only have ever modded v1.0 and v1.1 xbox's.

Confirmation that LPC modchips can't be wired in 29-wire mode on v1.3 would be great.

Well, that's not an "LPC" mod. 29 wires is usingthe chip in parallel mode, which means you are directly patching into the address and data lines of the onboard TSOP, rather than circumventing it through a serial bus connection.

I wrote that I believed the chip used as a CheapMod could be wired 'normally' - but others have told me it cannot be used this way. To be honest, I'm a bit puzzled at that,  but if anybody here has successfully wired "the" SST chip as a 29-wire mod, let us know.

At any rate, the comment stands - LPC cheapmods will NOT work (in LPC mode).

I have a refurb 1.0 and it has a mcpx x3 chip in it I successfully installed an X2 pro in it but a few days later it went black screen no video but can still ftp to evox. It still boots and seems to play games but no video. I think it fried the mcpx due to heat becaise I had noticed prior to it readking 60c on cpu temp after extended use. And fan exhaust seemed rather hot.
