I just thought I would let you know I have been doing a research study for a thesis paper I am writing. In this research I have visited 32 Walmart locations. All 32 have accepted my return xbox with no receipt, just all the original packing materials. I have swapped out hds, dvd drives, kept the motherboard out of two, but returned them all with all merchandise they came with such as the controller, cables, and all parts I swapped . In other words this post is for those of you frying your xboxes and wondering why me O lord. Now you have an answer, go to your local walmart and return that fried one for a new one. Just remember look at the date on the new one and make sure it was made before march 2003, or you probably will get stuck with a v1.3 box. Hope this helps anyone who has become an xbox widower.

i hope, that when returning to walmart...you're at least telling them that the xbox is broken (if it is...).

Why would I do that part of my research also has concluded, no matter the condition of the box, a refurbishing wholesaler buys them off of walmart for the same price no matter what is broken. So I am imposing no harm in not telling them what is broke, I simply tell them when I turn it on it turns back off, the same line I have used at every location.

This sounds like a great plan, and it is a very cool subject for a thesis paper. I have an XBox that is fried, just read yer post and got all excited. I have a box for is, but its a Refurb box, and I dont know if they sell refurbs. Before I go down there tho, I called and asked to make sure, they said something about a serial number on the XBox, they could see if they sold it there, and if so how long ago I bought it. When you started off, had you bought an XBox from a WalMart, then started this whole circle? Let me know, if I need to, I will go buy one from Wal Mart so I can return a coupld of the fried ones I have. Thanks.

Done deal
Walked to the service desk.
Went back to electronics.
Employee walked it to the front.
They scanned the sn and it didn't show up (bought it at KMart).
They told me it was past the 90 day warranty (by the prod date).
Plump blonde prints out a copy of the warranty.

"Xbox Video Game System must be returned in good shape without any visible damage, including any signs of abuse like broken packaging or crushed case"
"Xbox Video Game System must be returned without any visual signs of tampering with the screw on back of the unit where customer has attempted to to open console"

Blonde calls MS.
She had to take the console out of the box (I purposely put it in with the sticker hidden). She juggles it around and reads off the sn.

MS SAID EXCHANGE IT!

I even talked them into letting me swap the big controler for the s-type. I'll prolly get a knock on the door from MS goons, but you only live once.

I don't thing they are policing it very well, but I would suggest to hit em up at a peak time. There was only one employee behind the desk and she was busy, so I got a hard ass CSR. They made me show an ID.

I now have a 1.3 (I would assume, gots some reading to do) and no chip (my Xecuter 1.1 won't cut it).
System-mods... are you listening?

i work at wal-mart in electronics so if you try to return one and i know your from this site ill let you but my managers wont so jut come to me

Ok i official love Wally-World (walmart). I had this xbox that died on me and i took it to them told them that the box boots up 3 times and then dies. They exchanged it out NP at all. I had bought that box about 6 mos ago and when they had to exchange it out they called MicroShaft and M$ said it was within the 90 day period. I told them that i had gotten it a few mos ago as a gift,hence the no receipt.

I have a friend with a broken xbox, and I was wondering, did you "tamper" with the stickers?because his stickers have holes in them.

When i returned my xbox i tampered with them, and the return people wer looking really closely at it, and then the woman at the service desk called over soemone else to "give it the final 'OK'" and that woman looked at it for like 15 seconds then said its fine :-) Heres wat i did

-Swapped my thompson for samsung

-Swapped mobo with broken 1.0 (i dunno my friend broke it when installing a matrix)
-Took the two-game DVD out of the case without opening (all you gotta do is push on the center of the dvd case to *pop* the cd out, then shake, and use tweezers to take the cd out)
-Broke BOTH of the styrophome things inside, lol, they are shaped like the letter X sorta, and the middle of the x part snapped, so i just took a blade and cut them so it looked like they werent supposed to be connected
-Peeled the external sticker off by using a hair dryer (peel the bottom one, they looked closely at the top but sorta ignored the bottom)
-Peeled the stickers on the xbox using hair dryer + tweezers

I did somethign simular a few months ago....

See, my xbox was scratched up.. and the stickers on the bottom had holes in them, i had fried it during a horrible soldering accident..

I went to KMart, bought a new xbox .. that night, i peeled off the stickers on the bottom *rubbing alchohal*, took it apart, swaped the top of the case with mine (only the top was scratched ...), put it back together .. put the stickers back on... took it back the next day for a full refund, so i had a new xbox =/

Then, rented 007:AAF and modded me xbox with that.. so ha

I am gonna buy a new xbox, then open it up and switch my mother board that is kinda burt and wont let me install a mod but still works normal, Do I still tell them that it does not work or what?

if success I will switch my other mother board with the tsop fucked.

ya its more likely to work if you buy a new one and put ur fucked up one in the box and return it. reciept and all, what can they say
