This thread is brilliant - although unfortunately I am still having this problem!

Hi all,

I would really appreciate some help on this, my xbox has been dead for a month now and Im running out of ideas. Ill even pay someone that helps or gives advice that fixes it - Im desperate!!!

Background:
Xbox modded using Matrix, flash went wrong, wont boot now.

Problem:
Error 16 on boot

Attempts:
Re-Flashed Matrix with Evox M7 Bios, and another with Evox D6 Bios
Changed IDE Cable
Changed DVD-ROM Drive
Tried new hard-drive install
Burned Slayer 2.5 to several types of media, including CDR, CDRW, DVDR, DVDRW
Downloaded Slayer 2.5 twice in case of download problems

Still out of action!!! Has anyone else any ideas on possible solutions at all please? As I say Ive tried everything but will do anything to get it working! Please help.....

I wrote the starting tutorial. Why dont you just use an unlocked hdd? You must be able to get one from a friend or something?

Thats all you need! One unlocked hdd with the dashboard on it. And a working chip!

Goodluck

Hi

I have a similar problem, but  think my xbox may be a goner.  I got an error 13 for a while, and the xbox would intermittently startup, otherwise just crashing with the error.  Since i have noticed the change to error 16, it wont start up at all.

I have not changed or removed the dashboard since it worked (about 5 mins before it stopped, and after I had the box open and the chip, an xbit,  in and out) , and I am sure the box was not unplugged for more than a few mins...except i get this error, which means it MUST be a clock problem, no?  I have tried the D6 bios, with no joy. Also it wont boot up games directly.  not good methinks.

I only have a laptop so cant mess with the HDD out of the xbox, and no friends with modded boxes, so I don't know what to do...help please?

cheers

Jan

I messed up trying to install xbmc as my dash without changing the xbe file name etcetera and was having some major problems.

No body else has been able to help.

Cheers for the info.

try flashing with a newer bios?
all i know is that my experience with matrix chips has been a pain in the
@ , not that they aren't good chips, I just have a different preference.

similar occurence here though. repgrogramed the chip with a newer bios, then using the original locked drive I got out of that error loop.
then I reswapped drives and never had a problem.

i think the problem lies in the date/time setting.
you need to get the ms-dash somehow.

You can flash the matrix with X2 4983.67
I think that has date/time work-arounds in it.

Error 13
13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.

Error 14
14 - dashboard - Error loading dashboard (dashboard generic error)

methinks your IDE cable isn't set right or something related to the IDE bus not reading right.
