Does this need to be enabled in any way? I have evoxdash.xbe installed, but when I turn off my chip, I get a dash error (13). If I then go back to a previous bios, all works as it should so something is different.

boot order is as follows

evoXdash.xbe
neXgen.xbe
xboxdash.xbe

make sure you have them labeled with the capital
you don't want any files called yboxdash.xbe or whatever

make sure you dont have a F or E drive loader
please ftp into your box and check just to be sure

OK. Tried again doing the following

1. Flashed chip back to 4976.02
2. Deleted all previous dashes.
3. Uploaded evoxdash.xbe and xboxdash.xbe
4. Boot with chip on - all works fine
5. Boot with chip off - get error 13

Don't know why this happens. If I revert back to old bios and dashes, all works fine.

Any more pointers please?

What did you delete in pt 2?

Error 13 means: Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.

My guess is that you deleted some files that xboxdash.xbe needs to run.

If you made a backup of the C drive before you started doing anything (Backups can save you if you do something wrong), delete everything on the root of the C drive.
Transer the backup of the C drive back, and copy evoxdash.xbe and (modified) evox.ini over too. And you should be all set.

This is extremly wierd.

If your box boots with the chip off, then it cant be a bad msdash.xbe
but problems booting with the chip on, even if it boots with the mod on?

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
Somehow Currupted Bios
Booting to E: or F:

are you sure you have all your backed up ms dash files and also the correct version xboxdash.xbe ?

sounds to me like an original setup issue - not a hacked one

might sound silly but make sure your xboxdash.xbe is actually xboxdash.xbe and not msxboxdash.xbe

Plowking, You sir, are an absolute star !

Been trying for ages to boot evox with d6 bios and couldnt work out how to do it ! and u suggested using evoXdash.xbe (capital X) and all works, been hours racking my brains on that one !

A beer is in the post.

Thanks again
Edd1e

I also need to change my evox ini to point at xboxdash.xbe instead of msxboxdash.abe, all working for a change.

QUOTE
Deleted old versions of evoxdash.xbe, xboxdash.xbe and yboxdash.xbe.

Reloaded good xboxdash.xbe from my original backup and new evoxdash.xbe from xbins.

The machine runs flawlessley if the chip is turned ON. If turned OFF, I get an error 13.

Just for testing, I then deleted evoxdash.xbe and the machine booted to the standard ms dash.

The bios is from xbins and works fine unless I turn the chip off.

This happened to me before in one of the xbox's I modded.  It was because I used Slayer's install.  It may have some files missing, or a different version of the dash that your xbox can accept?  I fixed this by putting back all the files from the original drive I still had, then adding evoxdash.xbe and the other evox files.
