Bad Media?
« on: March 17, 2003, 11:36:00 AM »

I have an Xbox 1.0 and installed a Matrix chip.  I was able to flash the chip, align it so that the green light came on.  I had burnt my ISO file to a CDRW and tried to load it onto my Xbox.  Every time that I attempted to do so I got the invalid media message.  I inserted an Xbox original game and it booted up fine.  I am leaning towards the media as the reason that I could not load the dash board.  Now you are probably saying why don't you burn another disc.  Cause my burner is down and I will have to wait till tomorrow to get someone else to burn it.  I was just wondering if there was anything else I could try, or if I should just wait until I have another disc made.  The CD-RW was a "high speed" disc 4x-10x, are there any known problems with Xbox reading these types of discs?

well, what bios did you flash it with? if you used the Xecuter bios, do you see the XECUTER2 text on loading? do you see any sign that you can tell the chip definately didn't come unaligned? also, are you using an accual Evo-x disc, or are you using Slayers Evo X auto installer, i have heard of people having problems with the regular evo-x disc because the remade the iso wrong, so i would reccomend trying slayers (plus slayers comes with config magic/XBMP/HDD Loader and a bunch of other things) and try burning at 4x , thats what i burned mine at (4x fuji film cd-rw) hope this helps

Thanks for the replies,

I am sure it is a Evox V2 bios and received it from a trusted source.  I used  Slayers Evo X auto installer, and took the ISO and burnt it onto the CDRW at 4x.  That is all that I should have to do....correct?

I do not think that the chip became maligned.....once I put back in the Dvd/hard drive tray, I turned the XBox on 1 more time before putting the case on and the light was green.  I was very careful when putting the case back on so I do not think that it could have become maligned.

If my chip became maligned, would I be given any indication that it had?

Just an update, I took the case off again, powered it up and the green light came on so I am pretty sure that the chip is aligned properly.

At what point should I see "Matrix Inside" inside? Is this after I install the new dashboard? Currently I get the Xbox + MS screen and then the invalid Media screen.

Thanks,

I have gotten a friend to burn the ISO to a DVD-R and I will try it once I get home.  I know that my Xbox can read this brand of DVD-R so if does not work I will look towards the alignment of the chip again.

i tried the DVD R and it did not work.  So I took out the chip re-flashed it with a different bin than before, re-installed the chip got the green light and still nothing.  I have tried shifting the chip several times in small intervals and am still unable to load Slayers Install.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

Once I had installed the colored bios and the Xbox logo would appear in blue, I was pretty sure that it had something to do with the disk that Slayer's Install was on.  So I followed the Nero tutorial and re-burnt the disk and was able to install without problems
