if anyone has any requests for info (looking at tsop bios versions, manufacturing dates, serial number...etc), post them here and i will post all i can when i get home.

I'll also send a dump of the eeprom to someone who may be able to disassemble it and find out any info. Its not a prob cause the box wont be used for XBL

. Sorry i wont just send it to any old n00b with 1 post who is just going to use it to get on XBL. I will also try things like putting another HDD in, and locking/unlocking it to make sure stuff like this works

MS must of done this mainly for cheaper construction, so I wouldn't really call it v1.2, as its still running a v1.1 BIOS

I think it's still enough of a change to warrant a minor version revision, especially so all the matrix people can be told their chip wont work on a 1.2 box.

i have been out today and picked up a new box to chip for a friend. I opened it up and...wow thats weird? this HD is different than any 1.0 or 1.1 i have ever seen?!!?! it has a white sticker which covers 100% of the top of the drive. still manufactured by seagate and still 10gb. hmm, ok i think.

Everything else looks the same, then i notice there are some extra surface mount resistors bottom left of the LPC, and that d0 is closer the the LPC....lol wtf!?!

so installed the X2Lite i had bought ready for this box, put it back together and it boots up ok.

I install EVOx, xbmp, etc etc etc...and run some games to test it.
Upgraded to 4974 Blue bios, tested again OK.

wasnt till i came on here now i saw these posts about a new box!!!!!!

WELL THEY WORK WITH EXISTING 1.1 BIOSES!!!!!!! STANDARD X2L 4973 AND 4974 WORK FINE!!!!!!

This is good news!!!

i will post pics of the mod, the board, the HDD and everything working fine to prove this when i get home from work (3hrs!).

hope this has helped relieve some of you worrying!

correct ... even if the protection scheme didn't change , there must still be a different name for the console (doesn't work on pogopin , other installation diagrams , ...)
