Well, a new board only affects POGOPIN connections.

What that means, kiddies, is you'll have to solder the D0, which is ALWAYS accessable via the TSOP FlashROM chip itself, no matter what.

As stated, the D0 point still seems to be there, as a VIA, just in a different position. Apparently, M$ just wants to screw with newbs and make X-S a better placeĀ  jester.gif

Thing is, has anyone actually got a mod chip running on this yet?  They may have messed with more than just the traces, maybe adding more/different security like the 1.1 boards.  I assume that the alternative d0 is still there?

If it's just a trace layout change, then yes, pogo pin chips are screwed (unless x2 release a new adapter), but any chip that can be soldered should be fine (including the matrix if soldered).

Son of a bitch... I think the box I have been trying to mod this weekend is a new one. It acted goofy and I can not get it to work. I check the chip out in my machine and it works fine (so I know its not the chip). I have resoldered 3 times and it never takes. I used the underside D0 to solder.

Anyone get it working???

Sorry... long day and I looked at the wrong picture.. Doh!!!!! I am assuming I still have a 1.1 since it looks like that one.. I have no clue as to why its not taking on the install though...  smile.gif

Actually, they probably did more than just change the points around.

Other than possibly moving the lpc points to different connections and moving d0, notice how there's a winbound 256k chip there. That wasn't on the old board, there was another chip there instead.

As far as I'm concerned, from reading the post, we don't know how to mod this XBOX motherboard yet.

I fear this board... I'm sure there are a lot of changes ahead...  sad.gif
I'd try and not be naive about this...

Actually... Sony would be the "idiots." There system lacked the security MS has.

MS is concerned with security a lot more than Sony. Also I've been part of the scene since the day the XBOX was released, pre-ordered two of them... I had to check the isonews.com forums damn near everyday for what seemed like a lifetime until news popped up that the XBOX was cracked.

Most people, being naive as they were, said "that damn machine will be cracked within a month. It's by MS!" Well they were wrong, and we've figured that MS has some of the toughest encryption and security keys around today.

Don't take MS forgranted.

D0 is on this Board!

Roftl:)

Regards Stephan

wtf?  Yes, of course d0 is on the board, that's easy to deal with.  A bigger problem will be that they may have also changed the security again like on the 1.1 box.

Until somebody experienced with more than Matrix Pogopins gets a hold of oneof these Xboxes, we won't know for SURE if there is new security, but it appears the new design is merely a cost reduction revision.

There has also been no rumblings from nVidia regarding the stock of MCPX chips, so it's fairly safe to assume they haven't changed the security at the moment.

MOD EDIT: Since the jury is still out on this... we don't need 2 threads.. so

"V1.2 Xbox Modded Successfully, I HAVE DONE IT!!" is now merged with the PINNED D0 Thread. - HSDEMONZ

GOOD NEWS MODDERS!!!!!!!
i have been out today and picked up a new box to chip for a friend. I opened it up and...wow thats weird? this HD is different than any 1.0 or 1.1 i have ever seen?!!?! it has a white sticker which covers 100% of the top of the drive. still manufactured by seagate and still 10gb. hmm, ok i think.

Everything else looks the same, then i notice there are some extra surface mount resistors bottom left of the LPC, and that d0 is closer the the LPC....lol wtf!?!

so installed the X2Lite i had bought ready for this box, put it back together and it boots up ok.

I install EVOx, xbmp, etc etc etc...and run some games to test it.
Upgraded to 4974 Blue bios, tested again OK.

wasnt till i came on here now i saw these posts about a new box!!!!!!

WELL THEY WORK WITH EXISTING 1.1 BIOSES!!!!!!! STANDARD X2L 4973 AND 4974 WORK FINE!!!!!!

This is good news!!!

i will post pics of the mod, the board, the HDD and everything working fine to prove this when i get home from work (3hrs!).

hope this has helped relieve some of you worrying!

EDIT: typos smile.gif
EDIT #2: This is a UK, PAL xbox bought from PC World
EDIT #3 (lol): forgot to mention that it ran Debian Linux FINE!!!!! w00t biggrin.gif

Cool, after the impact of changing the design for 1.1 on nVidia I'd be supprised if they did such a thing again (dumping lots of expensive MCPX chips).
