Openxbox Hardswitch Installation.

*Bump*

Alright Now I read that wire Six is the only one that needs to be disabled (gamesx.de)  And am considering putting a switch on 9 and 6.  And with such a switch having wire 10 installed seems pretty pointless.
Why hold down eject which I can just flip a switch.

Kinda down I got no responses, maybe it was the wrong forum.  Anyways I'm just posting this so just in case some other poor slob ever looks for any this info they might be able to find and use it.

Man, can't you just solder in X1 and X2 and then use the eject button to power on the system with the mod off? I think you're wasting your time.

"3. "Disable Openxbox" feature

Connect X1 and X2 onto the back of your Xbox mainboard only if you like to enable the "Disable Openxbox" function. If you do so, you will be able to boot from the original Xbox Bios by holding down the EJECT button when powering on your Xbox console."

By the way AdoptedRev I don't think it's a hardware issue. My guess is that it's a software subject.

But what can these guys can do to the modchip. I don't know as I don't have upgraded mine.

Maybe someone who has made the upgrade or have it done by the chiptech guys should help us on this topic.

Rew, yea I knew all about that Eject disable, but the BioXX team has said that my build (v2) of the chip gets caught online, they've since changed the flashrom.  And do tell you to contact chiptech in Germany to software upgrade your chip.  I'd rather not for lots of reasons, for starters S&H and downtime w/ no chip.

Tribal, the guys on the BioXX board said its something to do with the flashrom, its a software upgrade but I think its not something they can just send to us and we take care of ourselves unfortunately.  I've also got some responses on their board (The english section) and their gonna see if theres any seriuos possibilities on being able to disable the mod with a few choice wires and the other choice is to setup a switch to open and close all 10 wires.

Anyone got any thoughts on where I can get a switch like that hehehe.
It goes w/o saying they're all different feeds, the other choice would of course having multiple toggle switches (ugh)

so here's another translation from for Elses  biggrin.gif
see this as in quotes  wink.gif

Slowly but shurely I'm getting a bit angry!

There seem to still be some Retailers who sell the PC-BioXX... and say that it is XBL-usable!

again:

You can recognize the mod-chip's Version when you Flash the Chip!

V2 : PC-BioXX OLD
V4 : PC-BioXX LIK Sang
V5 : PC-BioXX - XBL usable
V15 : PC-BioXX PRO - XBL usable and Bios-Switch

So think 'bout that when you are going to get one/just bought one: Check the Version when Flashing!

In regards,
Stephan and ofcourse meeeeee oCfuu  ... and Spider rolleyes.gif  ohmy.gif

ONLY usable with XBL if the Version is V5 or above... So either erase the mod-chip everytime you want to play on XBL, or get the Software-Update from ChipTech. ChipTech is the only one who can Update the chip to V15. They are located in Germany. Contact Elses for assistance!

Hi everyone. Elses asked someone to translate this for him smile.gif Here ja go:

if a PC-Bioxx is build into the console:

console is V1.0 (X-Ecuter 2.6 with 1024 KB)
EJECT : M$ Screen on Bootup
POWER : Xecuter2 Screen on Bootup

console is V1.1 (X-Ecuter 3.6 with 1024 KB)
EJECT : M$ Screen on Bootup
POWER : Xecuter2 Screen on Bootup

You WON'T notice a difference in the Bootup-Sequenze with different Bios-Versions (i.e.: 2.3, 2.4 for V1.0).
There is a Bios-Tutorial and Explanation over at xbox-scene.com. Here is the direct link to it.

Now to the Mod-Chip:
If you have the Lik-Sang Version: An IDE-Kable is shipped with this. This has two Plugs: One which fits the Mod-Chip's Printer plug, and one which fits the also included Printer Cable. This IDE-Kable MUST be plugged BETWEEN the Mod-Chip and the Printer Kable. Don't just hook up the Printer Kable to the Mod-Chip: The chip won't be detected if you do so!

Just to Flash the PC-BioXX, it is enough to Solder PINs 2 and 6 (for elektricity). But the Konsole has to be turned on ofcourse smile.gif (NOT when you solder, but when you try to flash rolleyes.gif )

If the PC-BioXX is found, and you flashed it succesfully, you can go ahead and solder the other points.

What's written here is intended for an XBOX which does NOT have a bigger HD or the EvoX Dashboard installed! (So don't flash the chip with a EVO-Bios... Do that later...!)

Hope this Helped you guys and Elses! Have fun!

Thank you Zanga, I've already seen and read those bits (on gamesx.de)
After I read those thats when I came to the decision I needed a hardswitch to disable the mod.

If i have a V5 or V15 OpenXbox, what would the proper procedure be to play on Xbox Live without detection? And my other question is, can you still have a dashboard installed such as EvolutionX?

Thanks for the Help

Mike

By the way, Great Topic, Explained a lot

I'm pretty sure just holding down eject to disable the Bios is good enough in your case, which sorta segways into your next question.  I'd recommend getting a Bios that looks for evoxdash.xbe first THEN xboxdash.xbe, this way if you boot to the original bios you won't get that annoying Service error.  I'd suggest X2 Bios.
Read Zangas second post to see why its the better choice.

FWIW, I have an old v2 OpenXbox and I haven't been banned from XBL. I have a switch on wire 9 (The ground wire for the LPC mod) and use a BIOS that locates all my aftermarket stuff on drive F:. The dashboards, ini files, everything are on drive F. Flip the switch and reboot and its back to the standard dashboard and drive C is completely clean.

I've never made the mistake of trying to go live with the mod enabled and it's been about a month since I logged onto live the first time.

Are you serious? blink.gif  blink.gif   No I mean are you very serious, because honestly no ones ever given me a straight up answer before  blink.gif  blink.gif  blink.gif

So just pin 9 and you've had no problems?  Maybe we should talk =)

Danger!

LPC : PC-BioXX send informations to the client!
switch dosn`t work!

only way: erase the PC-BioXX or get a V5 or V15 (thats the one and only way)

uhh.gif

I've done the same as Kungfucow, fit a SPST switch on a wire between 'd0' and ground.  Live has worked fine since the UK beta started.

I'm not really sure what Zanga is claiming.  My only guess is that the BioXX is still powered on and could be seen if something decided to access the LPC bus.  It does not appear to me that MS are doing this at present...

If they do, fitting a DPDT switch so that the supply voltage is also cut (wire 6??) as well as 'd0' should be fine.  It would be really nice is someone like Zanga could explain exactly what is happening.  I think one problem is most of the BioXX crew only speak german.
