Better Alternative To Hdd Activity Led
« on: September 24, 2002, 09:25:00 PM »

Nice... I was hoping there would be a way to use the existing eject button LED's for this.

However, these instructions aren't quite detailed enough for the electrical newbie, (me).  Could someone that understands this and has tested it post a tutorial?

Because that would rock.

peaceout,

It's quite simple actually. All you need is a 10k resistor and a wire....heh

Just connect the points.

I just did this to my xbox, and it scared me for a second smile.gif when the xbox first booted it blinked red for a split second, then started booting.  Rebooted, did the same thing.  But it's working fine, and the amber blinking drive activity is sexy biggrin.gif

Anyway to change the colour of the light?  Perhaps, red blinking, orange, blue, white, or any other kinda colour would look pretty cool, just wondering if the light colour change is possible.

If you got balls, try the other points next to it (Considering you might fry your Xbox). Other then that, what's wrong with the amber color LED?

Won't that friggin blinking LED make you go bonkers while you are playing a game off your HDD?

No thanks, I already get to the point where I want to throw my controllers across the room easy enough as it is! laugh.gif  I'd want to kick that LED light in after 30 minutes of Halo or such!

To all those who think I shouldn't be opening my XBOX:

As I said, I'm an electrical newbie.  I've only ever soldered one piece of equipment, and that was my X-Ecuter to my XBOX... and I did it flawlessly.. and I'm about to do another one here in a week.  To my knowledge, there were no "resistors" involved in soldering the chip on, therefore, I have no experience with them.  And in looking at those pictures, I don't see what they are referring to.  It just looks like one wire to me, (which is easy enough).

So, if one of you who prefers to spend their time constructively, as opposed to flaming, would like to explain this simple process to those of use who aren't in the know, I'm all ears.

Also, Dark Schneider brings up a good point.  Wouldn't the LED blink incessantly while playing a game from the HDD?

Thanks,
