Hardware/tools Needed To Flash Xbox Bios
« on: September 02, 2002, 06:11:00 PM »

Hey everyone, hopefully I'll get some good responses.

I am interested in seeking out/determining what tools I may/will need to flash/replace the ACTUAL MS Xbox bios (read: flash the actual bios of the xbox with either my own code or someone else's, etc.)

Note that I am aware of bridging those two points and using a mod to flash the xbox bios with THAT mod's bios or even EvoX 2.x... however, this is not what I am interested in doing.

I was thinking something along the lines of a LPC flash tool or some sort of PIC programmer, or something along that nature of hardware (as obviously that is not exactly the hardware needed).

Perhaps I am wrong in my thinking, but if not I would like to know what tools/hardware I would need to do such a thing. Helpful even more-over would be the manufacturers number (#) or Model type of each piece of hardware.

Much appreciation to those who contribute their knowledge to this post, and thanks in advance.

You cannot flash the onboard bios with any LPC mod.  All LPC mods disable the onboard bios and the xbox uses the bios on the mod itself.  If you want to install a new onboard bios I suggest using a homebrew or Enigmah, booting up into EvolutionX, run xbflash, when it is ready to flash cut wires 10 and 19 on the homebrew or 15 and 21 on the enigmah and then proceed to flash a few times.
