8-pin Chip Near Bios Chip

Well, it sounds like you've got mad skillz compared to Epox's little adventure, but it sounds like the BIOS is OK, but your 8-pin socket must not be correctly soldered (that or the chip got zapped from static when you pulled it out or otherwise damaged in the process)

Good luck.

I used the same socket as bunnie

http://www.xenatera....ak/xboxmod.html

think that it may be the only TSOP socket avialable for surface mount work.

fiddly to fit...the leads are not spaced uniformly (they are free to move around a bit...gotta set them right), and the security chip gets in the way to solder the leads...so just remove it! (not sure about that one yet!!!).

The BIOS chip can be removed after lots of practise at doing that sort of thing (I killed about 20 old motherboards practising when I first started out)...need good tweezers and just put moltern solder on all pins

Has anyone unsoldered and refitted the 8-pin (security?) chip that is between the BIOS chip and the PIC.  I removed the BIOS chip and the 8-pin chip and then fitted a socket.  Now it boots up, the dvd drive opens but all I get is the xbox screen...then a garbled message that the xbox requirs service

I had no problems with 8 pin chip. Removed it and replaced it. The TSOP socket is another matter. Good luck I have yet to get one to work. Even with the equipment I have, that damn socket is tough to work with. I can remove the TSOP chip in less than three minutes, clean it another three minutes, reprogam it five minutes and replace it ten minutes and I would still be pissing with the socket. I gave up on the sockets, can;t get a professional installation with them.

I have six sockets for sale if anyone wants them!!!
