Homebrew Problem
« on: June 15, 2002, 10:56:00 PM »

OK so here we go..... I flashed the xtender to a SyncMOS F29C51002T (2mbit) chip... i dumped the chip into a file and sfv checked it to compare w/ the xtender bin, and they were a perfect match.

Then it was modded to the xbox (flashrom style, not eprom style). I double checked all solder points with a meter, and they are all ok (yes, including the bridge #32 that some people forget to do).

When I turn the xbox on, the dvdrom starts to buzz (like its spinning fast) but theres nothing in it, and the circular light flashes green/green. (NOT red/green)  There is no video, and the dvd drive will not eject.

im out of ideas.....and am leaning towards the flashrom.. maybe that brand is just incompatible w/xbox or something? any help would be appreciated.   ;)

Hi,

there is an "advanced" submenue in Uniflash where you can flash your chip WITH a sector to boot from - if you didn´t choose this option then it won´t work though the image size will exactly be the same.

Is this correct about the subMenu thing???

What are the exact instructions???

I flashed mine also and i got the red/green lights, now looking back
at my BIOS i pulled off after I flashed, exact file size but ......
its a bunch of zeros!!

chip I used:
 511-M29F002BB70P6
 DiP-32 256KX8 70NS
 STM FLASH EEPROM

Why wasnt this said before???

darn... ok, however i could not use Uniflash to flash my chip, because it made crazy ansi color crap go all over the screen, so im assuming it didnt work.

I used  aminf332.exe.  It was a tad weird because after what looked like a successful flash, it rebooted the PC. But no big deal, we put the proper bios chip back in, booted the computer again, and checked the newly flashed xbox chip by dumping the contents to a file. So this is where, I assume, we have the right file size, but not a boot sector.  I wonder if theres another flash program we can use to do this besides uniflash?

I checked the Uniflash documentary, and it seems to have trouble with the exact combination were using, which is an ASUS P5A, and out particular model of  SyncMOS chip.... what a bad coincidence!!  Any ideas?

update:

just flashed again and got zeros again. (with boot sector)

did it 2nd time and it worked.

I looked at orig dumo of 1st chip and saw hex matched accept
for last 50 lines or so... they were all zeros! maybe thats the
bootsector part!

i even had to flash 1 chip, dump it to file and use that file to flash another!

I didn't program mine in the advanced submenu with the boot sector option and it works perfect.  I think it depends on which chip you are using.  I just typed 'uniflash -e a:2Mbit.bin'
