Here's how it goes.  Get a hold of the master password from TEAMASSEMBLY and use ConfigMagic to unlock the drive.  How?  Turn on your xbox with a bootable drive, and run configmagic.  Once you're in there, pop the IDE cable out of the HD.  Power on your PC with the locked drive hooked up (NO IDE HOOKED INTO IT, though, just to give it power) and plug the xbox's IDE into this drive.

Use the master password then to unlock it.

If you need to run it in a non-modchipped box...

Relock it with a generated key from liveinfo... to do that, pop the now-unlocked drive into your computer, and load liveinfo.  Select the eeprom.bin from your xbox's 'C:/backup' folder (to create one, run evolution-x and hit 'backup').  This will give you a 'unique HDD key' which will generate the correct password for your WD drive.  Use either hdlock.exe or ConfigMagic to lock it with that key.

Hope it works!

Don't ask how to get the master password (honestly, I don't know) but I know it's floating around here somewhere.  Maybe someone on the board knows it.  If you do find it, PM it to me.  I'd be interested in having it..

i think you can only use the TEAMASSEMBLY trick if your xbox hdd was locked last with config magic, otherwise it won't work.

The rest is relatively easy - MAC address, NTSC or PAL, 1.0/1.1, etc.  Not sure what a confounder is though.  Didn't bother touching it.

I have been looking into this for months.  I burnt up a friend of mine's board and bougth him a new board.  He wasn't happy cause he lost all this "irreplaceable" music.  So I spent all my time in many different forums (mainly at team-assembly's website)  Some guy said he did it by shorting out the hard firmware on the drive but never any specifics.  I am pretty sure that right now, without the eprom, you will not unlock it.  There were even questions about taking out the platter and putting it into another case.  Good luck with that.

Well, Well , Well .. this is interesting stuffs, I first thinking the code (pasword) is in the HD circiut board, but boy i'm wrong ... why did i say that?, i have a dead HD on one box and another working but unknow password from another box, so i say to my self, i could swap the board from the working drive to the dead drive and have i working again ... wrong, the code is not in the board, so i guess it must be written to some sector or HD table ... my nex test will actually chaning the platter out ... any one got a better idead or details?

thanks

Would Sottilde's method work if all i have is a locked hard drive. I don't have the eeprom, and i don't have the key, but i locked it with ConfigMagic.

I didn't read this entire thread, so if it has been mentioned before, sorry.

I've used this method successfully to cross-check passwords on different drives. Assuming you have a working Xbox with configmagic installed on it. Boot the Xbox into configmagic and let it detect your current hardware, etc. Now, hot-swap the hard drive you don't have a password for with the drive in the xbox (note: remove ribbon cable first, then power, and connect to the other drive in the same order). Now, go into the configmagic start menu and choose 'Load XBOX EEPROM' and it will requeury the new drive and hopefully spit out its current password.
