Not unless you have the EEPROM of the hosed XBox and you flash it to a working XBox, or you have this $1k+ product that descrambles the password for you.

ph34r.gif  like a hot-swapped method? Isn`t dangerous to plug IDE cables with PC turn-on? Or it can be done first with the computer off? uhh.gif

It does have its dangers, you can kill the hard drive, which I have done before, but the way to look at it is this, you carrently have a rather unattractive 8Gb paperweight, by hot swapping you MAY end up with an 8Gb hard drive, you could still end up with a paperweight, but I cant see anything getting worse !!

to do a hot swap safely, it is pretty easy with a hard drive drawer, there is a protection in the circuit wink.gif

alright so i got it to recognize the hdds today

THE KEY!  is to have the xbox hdd on a compeltely separate IDE cable all on it's own,

took me a couple of PC freezes to figure that out, plus some help from hAck.

but anyways,ran live info,
just read directly the hdd key for the xbox hdds. (not touching anything in the upper half of the live info window) and booted up in DOS and ran unlockX.

but no luck with the keys.

hummm.... wonder if there's anything else one can do...?

someone needs to design that brute force program
that will decipher the 40 digit code.

i would love them forever.
and my love is important

i just did some calculation and by *my* findings, don't hold this as word, there is a possibility of almost 1,800,000 different locking codes that could be used on one particular drive.  if a master coder was to write a brute force program, it could take upwards of 2 months of non-stop work to crack the code. and that's if you were lucky.

tomorrow, i'll whip out my wd 120 in my xbox and see if your method works hack.

the passwords:
are they case senstive?
should the letters be upper or lower case?

hack a couple of questions:
1.) when you get it to recognize xbo hdd in PC, all's you do is just look at the password there that live info gives ya right?  no messing abut with the stuff in the upper portion of the live info window?

2.) how did you unlock your hdds? were you using unlockX?

i'll post my findings with the 120 gb hdd here tomorrow

my test results are in:

i locked my 120 gb hdd on my xbox using config magic, removed it and hooked it up to PC< and ran live info.

WRong key.

i got it make right key only by putting in the correct unique hdd key.  only then would it spit out the right pw.

hummm,

you might have just gotten lucky hack.

i dunno, or did you input the unique hdd key on the live info window?
