New Xbox 1.4 Model?
« on: September 02, 2003, 01:53:00 PM »

I ran into a couple of 1.3's with march date codes that had the checkerboard sticker on the bottom and the live dash, I don't think those are reliable indicators.  I have a hard time believing you can't find anything older though.  I can pretty much pick my version just by tossing the stack at circuit city and best buy, they have ones with 2 week old build dates, and original 1.0 systems, and I've tossed the stacks at multiple stores in the area just out of curiosity, and found all versions available.  Best bet is to take a buddy, look for extgra piles of xboxes in other areas of the store.  Most stores are terrible about rotating stock, one of my pet peeves as someone who used to work in a grocery store( if they don't rotate stock, you get *old* food sometimes)... Check the bottom shelves and overstock locations, or even try other stores -  I prefer circuit city because they have the "price drop" refund protection, and no hassle returns - if I power it up and no sammy - back it goes!...

im sure the solder points are there... maybe you have to tap into them somewhere else... like mid wire or soemthing...

or maybe ms found a way to prevent mod chip installations... in which case, exploits and tsop's would be a great alternative, but i have a hard time believing its impossible to solder a modchip into any version xbox... unless ms figured out how to completely get rid of those solder points...

im gona guess the modchips that use less wires will work on a 1.4?

I'd like to see a pic of those solderpoints - no offense, but the only pic of a "1.4" I've seen was top only, and looked just like a 1.2 or 1.3 to me.

And a serial # wouldn't hurt either - skip the last 5 digits, just give us the first part...

You should PM UberGeek and see if Team Xecuter needs a 1.4 box.

Failing that, send it to me  tongue.gif

Hi there.

Newbie here. Just got an Xbox that I can identify as a version 1.1 by the numbers that appear on the system info screen.

Well, I was pretty satisfied that I had a 1.1 until I read this post. I too have the Xbox Live already installed new out of the box. I just bought it from Best Buy like a week ago. The manufacturing date is 2003-01-06. I guess that's pretty new according to what I have been reading.

Is there anywhere that someone can direct me that walks you through the Xbox hacks and all that stuff from square one? I've been building and tweaking PC's since the 386, so  I'm no newbie to the computer world, but I am an Xbox dummy! I have done quite a bit of reading but get all sorts of conflicting information (like the fact I can't read CD-R when I in fact can, ect.)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just to clear up the "i bought an xbox, it has the LIVE dash" thing.... I have seen xbox's as far back as Dec. 2002 with the LIVE dash installed.  These being 1.1's.  The LIVE dash tells you nothing.

dinkokathy:http://xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php

hmmm well you could simply look over the board and atempt to find matching points (names / numbers and whatnot)  the stuff still got to be there although teh old beast chips may not work anymore and M$ may have found a way to cut down points i find it hard to believe i couldnt put a  good xtender chip in there.

if you still have any ill take a crack at it  i need something to do at devry.

Yep it sucks. Im not gonna buy more systems to even look at til I know what will identify one that I can chip. So far I just look at the silver sticker on the bottom and if i can tell theres the checker pattern I wouldnt bother. And i figure only old systems have the non-xblive dash so I can tell people not to keep one with that too I suppose. Seems like they just threw in this new version and theres no real rhyme or reason to what model board is inside any givin unit. Is this a sample of how organized MS is of are they actually this smart to make such a big mess and see if we cant make sence of it?

My best guess regarding all boxes above with the exception of the one from 1:st of August is that they're all v1.3
