WTF!!!!!!!!!!

i just received my zalman heatsink. I removed the old one, i just tried to fit it without actualy using thermal adhesive yet. I put the dvd on top of it and it DOES NOT FIT!!!

Did someone else besides jaxbox did this tut. and fitted everything well ????

This really sux!

Please some feedback

Me and a friend did a very similar mod to this (Inspired by this) for his xbox, I just ripped a heatsink off an old motherboard. I would suggest if you live in the uk get you ass down maplins with your xbox heatsink you should be able to find something reasonable. Or get someone to skim the heatsink for you.

On a sidenote I've probably got the loudest xbox in the world and one of the coolest.

No seriously, i find this tut FU$^&$ UP!!

I mean, you do a mod, nothing wrong with that. But you don't tell ppl everything fits ok after the mod is done. I mean, It's good a tested it before i put the thermal adhesive otherwise i would be stuck with a dvdrom i cannot put in my xbox because of the heatsink sticking out a little.

I am trying to figure whether the xbox v1.1 heatsink fits on the v1.0 or whether it's completely different. If the attachment method is completely different i could use thermal adhesive to place it on the gpu permanently otherwise i could attach it (but be able to still remove it) and use the silver 5 pasta i received today.

I was wondering whether someone else used this tut for replacement with zalman?

If any of you that bought a Zalman that didn't fit want to sell yours, I'll buy it. I have plenty of room in my pc case.

Anyone have any experience with using thermal tape instead of paste? It sounds appealing since it's not permanent.

Unfortunately, I found out the Zalman didn't exactly fit after I applied it with adhesive.  You are correct, the DVD drive does not fit in snug.  It sticks up probably about 3-5mm, while resting on the heatsink.  I'm uncomfortable with that, but I guess its too late now.  I wouldn't have gone through with the mod had I known that up front.   sad.gif

damn that sux bigtime. Well i already mailed the guy from the tut about it, and this is what he said:"But I didn't mention it in the tut (perhaps a mistake!) because I realized that you can just squeeze the dvd-drive into place, and put the case-top on (eventhough it's a tight fit). In my experience it's not a problem that the DVDdrive rests on the heatsink.. ".

Well i guess if you knew this you wouldn't install the zalman would you?

I tested it without using the thermal adhesive, just to see how it would fit, when i placed the dvdrom back in, and i noticed it was resting on the zalman, first thing i did was packing the zalman in and returning it back to the store.

I am getting a broken v1.1 mobo so i am going to use that heatsink as my replacement heatsink +fan v1.0 smile.gif

All you have to do is grab a dremel and cut 4mm off of the top of the heatsink... Then it'll fit, with very little cooling degradation...
