I'm not too expirienced in building stuff like this, but after ripping apart a couple of CD player in-line controls I think that something like this is possible.  What I saw was that there were a couple of switches lined up to resistors or something like that and they all went into the same line and the same ground.  All of this must be sorted out inside the CD player (or in my case, the Xbox).  I found switches that will fit in the memory card here:

If anyone out there knows anything about hooking up two pushbutton switches to the same wire, their hints would be graciously appreciated.
