Hdd Experts Check This Out!
« on: August 25, 2003, 05:39:00 PM »

hi ok let me start by saying im currently with 3 xbox drives... 2 unlocked 1 locked because it was from a faulty xbox but the image on it is clean...

ok heres the problem.. following trying that blue dash hack i messed up my hdd, ive been using software font hack to boot into my xbox no modchips here...

anywayz... i messed up my original drive the 120gb cuss of the software hack.. i know your all wispering why didnt you back it up.. well how you back up 120gb when you only have a scsi 10gb dell server drive... anywayz......

so i have a messed up drive and a clone of the 120gb drive also messed up on 1 unlocked xbox drive... and the other locked with the ATA security code from another ( the faulty xbox...) anywayz.. tonight i tried something crazy...

i know i can access the unlocked drive (one of the xbox original drives.. the cloned 120gb drive) but i cant access the locked 8gb drive from the faulty drive... cuss of course its locked... with the xbox i threw away...
well what i did was i took the mobo off the working HDD xbox drive (unlocked one) and put it on the locked HDD xbox drive booted it up.. to see if i could then access it.. like this would counter the xbox security cuss i thought the flash rom and data would all be stored on the mobo... well guess what... CRYING!!!!!!!! its not.. the must be a sector or something storing the password in plain text on the locked drive? or a flash rom inside the drive its self not on the mobo??? im stuck for ideas now.. i need a image of a perfectly working xbox drive.. to restore my 120 C partition....

if any of you guys with the brain power can help me out i would so so so appricate it... thing is i tried bachi's FATX-explorer i even emailed him (no reply) his program would be prefect for me.. cuss i could inject the files i need back onto the 120gb drive... but sadly it just closes everytime you get it to try and read a image...

now these are my last moments of being sane....

can i ask this.....
is the a program compatable with the image file whice xhdd driver makes...? with will let me put files into the image...??

is the any other way or is the anything anybody can suggest.. if any of you can help me.. i would appricate it so much as you can all see... i have tried everything...

regards
tony...

ps: email me please if you have any solutions to my problem..

sad.gif  wut about if i create a normal FAT image with another program... hex edit it... look at what makes up a partition.. and then

0x00080000 Game Cache A
0x2ee80000 Game Cache B
0x5dc80000 Game Cache C
0x8ca80000 System
0xabe80000 Data

copy that data into what makes a partition on my image... and see if i can open my image with a normal partition program or at least something i can replace files on it.. ?? SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.... LOSING SLEEP HERE?? eyebags like a panda..!!

hehe...  don't lay an egg dude...   wink.gif

why not just put in a cheapmod and run slayer's on your unlocked drive(s)?   That would give you the option of wiping out your bad dash, and starting fresh.    Your unlocked drives are fine, you should be able to acess them with any modded box - as for the locked one, it's a paperweight unless you have access to the prom from the dead mobo, even if you do, on a stock drive, it's prolly not worth the effort to extract it ( de-solder the prom, put it in a reader, get the code, run hdunlock and disable the lock)... - unlocked stock drives go for under $20 shipped...

as for not backing up, all you need to backup is the c and e drive, a few hundred megs at most... ( unless it's stuffed with savedgames and music)...

I know youre looking for an easy fix, unfortunately I don't think there is one if you've got an exploit gone bad...  just a real chip...

I think he's sorta right, as far as an easy way out is concerned.  The simplest thing will probably be use a cheapmod.  But there is a Hard way.

The ATA password that your xbox uses to lock and unlock the drive is not actually stored anywhere (as far as I know).  Its calculated from a data in the eeprom and information about the drive, like size, model, serial, whatever.  So using another xbox drive's key isn't gonna do anything for you, since when the xbox tries to unlock it with its calculated key, it'll be rejected and you get that error "Your Xbox nees service".  You can try to use HDD info to get a new key new key for the drive and lock it with that.  But this assumes that you have an eeprom backup of some kind from the xbox's moBo you're working on.

As far as data goes, you were on the right track with the hex addrs, but you need to write the data config area at the front of the drive.  The xbox only cares about a few things on boot.  Being able to successfully unlock the drive, finding the Disk Config area in order, and reading (signed)system files from the system partition.  If you can copy these from another stock xbox hd you could be on your way.

The first thing you need to do is to get good software.  I read that you can't access the 8gb hd.  You might be able to get what you need offa the 120gb.  Unlock it... stick it in your comp, open Hdd Driver and backup the Disk Config area and the System partition.  The system partition might take a while, but it's only around 700+ mb so clear some space.  Next get the hd that you're gonna use in the xbox (something lockable of course) and use something like Hd prepare to zero the config area.  Use winhex to look at the drive and insert the string "BRFR" at offset 0x600 from the begining of the drive.  This will identify that its an xbox hd and also trick hdd driver into recognizing it.  Now you can open it in hdd driver but you won't see any folders.  Use restore to write back the disk config and system partition that you made.  Now you should be able to see the system partition.  Delete all the files and write back a clean (signed) dashboard with your favorite hack, mine is font cause it's easy.  Lock the drive with the code from hdd info.  At this point you should be able to get into the xbox.  Solder the flash points on your xbox.  Flash your tsop with a bios that allows hd upgrades.  Use slayers cd to format your drive.  Then you can backup these clean partitions except the f: ofcourse and restore them to your 120gb with all your games.  If you don't have your eeprom backup, you're SOL.  But your could probably use a moBo wit an eeprom backup that you know to get yours working

smile.gif  thanks for replying guys...

errm.. i gotta admit something now... i tried a faulty TSOP solder.. and errmm (THE SHAME) fucked up the solder points... but thankfully were still able to boot up my xbox..  soldering just isnt my thing... so forget tsop.. thats a no go..

yeah a mod chip... well xodus said they would send me one free....!!!! arent they great.. about 8 months ago i sent in a design of a 1meg mod chip addon.. and being sly asked if they made that design or one near it.. would they send me a freebee.. hahah they promised..that once i want one they will send me one... last week i passed on my details.. etc.. so just waiting to see now when it arrives in the post.. dont want to nag them anymore.. cuss its FREE

truth be told... arrgh i know i shouldnt say this... arrghhh god forgive me..

bachi's fucked up FATx Explorer is that mofo worked... without closing.. i could solve this problem in 5mins.. i have a back up of C and E drive... i could just pop the new files on there.. but every time i try to use that damn £$%"£$%£ program.. it just closes.. with image or reading HDD its a mofo.. i emailed him.. i posted message to him.. just to correct that closing error.. "£%"!"%%$%$£"!£"!£" hell.. no reply.. i shouldnt be bitching here..but errm.. that program looks good. and would be a wonder to us all on hotswaping drive or wutever.. if only it damn worked.....

anyway my last solution is next week.. i will mod my mates xbox with the font hack.. and use a image of his... but it just means another week of no games.. and i have a little brat(prat) son to entertain moaning his ass off....

anywayz both of you thanks for your advice.. and thanks for posting a reply.. i really appricate it.

anymore posts welcome..

Peace. beerchug.gif

Considered using Xlinux?

None of that crap with HDD_DRIVER crashes or Fat-X-Plorer keep closing.

Takes like, 2 mins to restore an entire system partition.

You can get it from the usual place  wink.gif

HAHHA cockhead replying here... so wut is this xlinux its not a whole linux instalation is it.. im kinda ugh.. not a fan of linux.. cuss i have a dell poweredge server as my home pc.. and the thing is... its got onboard GFX card... with a second PCI card i installed... linux only offers me setting of 640x480 in configX phoned dell etc.. no bios updates to allow to turn off onboard gfx.. so i kinda hate linux.. btw.. haha i tried that on a few flavors.. some linux wont even show a thing...

back the the subject....
yeah this xlinux... i heard its a solution to the drive problem.. but... is it worth me having to format or make a linux partition on my pc HDD for this 1 solution.?
