WD1200JB locked for me aswell..Some do and some don't apparently..It has to do whether it's OEM, or retail etc I think...
I can't give the exact serial number coz it's in the box...But i see what config magic says... WDC WD1200JB-00CRA1...

Configmagic is an xbox app...So  you might try one of those other pc dos apps like UNLOCKX and see if it locks...But those apps can be a bit dodgy...

I've tested both of the 1200JBs that I have and neither will lock.  One is a retail box and one is OEM, though both came from Dell.  Just gave up on it for now and use them in my PC, I'll get a Maxtor next time I see a big one on sale.

yeah, I've purchased one of those $30 drives this morning...
followed the instructions in this tutorial: http://www.xbox-scen...dd-install2.php
and now have a lot more space

I don't understand why everyone is having so much trouble getting their drives to work...

Well I got a the 8mb cache 120GB Western Digital today from best buy for $60 (pricematched it to Officemax). The cool thing about it was that they gave it to me for $60+tax right at the counter (no mail-in rebates to worry about). Sure you can get it for a bit less at officemax but you are also going to have to wait a month or two before you can enjoy your extra savings and purchase a bunch of extra stuff as well.
