Unlocking Hdd Without The Code

Unlocking a HDD without password can be done :

1) Download liveinfo-beta2

2) Power up your pc and boot into windows (only done with xp so far)

3) Plug the IDE cable onto the XBOX HDD

4) Plug a pc power lead onto the XBOX HDD

5) Open device manager and scan for hardware changes, you may need to do this a couple of times, and it sometimes looks like device manager has crashed (can be as long as 5 mins) but the device will appear eventually, No other part of windows will see it !!

6) Run Live info and retrieve the password

7) Unlock as normal

I do not guarentee this method, all I know is it has worked for me, liveinfo reports that the drive is lockable, is actually locked, and tells you the password

cool.gif ) i used ATAPWD and went to unlock hdd with user password... typed in TEAMASSEMBLY "command accepted"... went down to disable hdd with user password typed in TEAMASSEMBLY "command accepted" i tried using master password but it did not work... im guessing team assembly writes to user rather than master... i put it into my new xbox and BOOOM! it worked *dances around like little girl getting a barbie on christmas*

so markduncan is wrong... if your hdd is locked with configmagic then it is TEAMASSEMBLY... not a 40 digit number.

So firstly the code is NOT a 16 digit code but 40 digit one (THIS IS A FACT THAT CAN BE VERIFIED ELSEWHERE).

Im not trying to flame, im just saying what he said above is not ENTIRELY correct as he seems it is.

in order to do this dont you allready have to have the drive unlocked to get windows to recognize it, if not then can u please tell me how to do it with windows 95, because i tried it with "add new hardware" and it didnt detect it. i also tried hotswapping the drive, but when the computer detected it when it is booting up, it said "please wait" and i waited for 30 mins and it just stayed at that same screen. so if someone could please help me out i would appreciate it!

I don't beleive that, not for one minute, a locked drive will not accept any command other than those which unlock it, you cannot read the password off of it with software that's just not how it works you either send the drive the right password, it compares it to the one it has stored, unless you send it the right password there is no way of opening the drive. That means any talk of software reading the password off a drive is impossible because the hard drive will not accept any commands other than those which unlock it (meaning, if you ask it for a password, it tells you fuck off i'm locked). There is no real way to brute force it either because i beleive after 3 failed password attempts your system is restarted.

The only way to retreive a password from a drive is in a procedure similar to this one:
http://www.xboxhacke...cle&id=7&page=1

Otherwise you can try to pull the eeprom and put it into another modded xbox with an unlocked drive (otherwise it will send their drive your password and it will fail).

This security feature is old and is used to this day BECAUSE IT WORKS.

This question gets asked like once a week probably, something should be pinned about it.

And with regards to the HDD's type. I have unlocked one "OEM" HDD but this was just mucking around to see if it would work.

You state that it was an OEM drive, but had it ever been been unlocked or locked by ConfigMagic before?  What I'm trying to determine is whether or not your method works with HDDs that have never been touched by ConfigMagic.
