Kotor Backup Problems (south Taris Cantina)

I just decided to revisit the KOTOR universe so I decided to erase my old save games.  Now when I try to go to the upper cantina on Taris, the game freezes after about %90 of the loading.  I used to be able to go here on my backup copy, could my xbox have changed somehow.  I have a x3 ce chip with the x3 1.6 bios.  I reflashed the bios, set the clock, cleared the caches, nothing seems to help!
