Double Layer Dvd
« on: March 01, 2005, 09:20:00 AM »

Ok,
I wanted to burn ESPN NFL 2k5 onto a Double Layer DVD, but now that I've read all the Posts about Xboxes which don't read the disks properly or even do not read them at all, I doubt to even try to burn it and waste an expensive DL-DVD.

Now I wanted to know if it is generally possible to burn ISOs onto DL-DVDs - if yes - what do I have to consider and which special things do I have to do?

PS: I have a Philips-DVD-Drive in my XBOX and I've only heard of Samsung Drives who had success in reading DL-DVDs - are there again some brands which do work and some who don't?

Some Answers would be very helpful.... <

what I also heard was, that I need to prevent files lapping over the 2 sides of the DL-DVD...

how could I prevent that? <

No, that doesn't matter, I backed up a few dls in even a thompson drive with verbatim dvd+r dl media.  That is the best dl media out there so far.  Try it. <

I thought that the XBox couldn't read DVD+R media, is this not the case with DVD+R DL?! I have a Samsung drive in my modded XBox and I swear I recall that it could not read DVD+R media. <

so how did you go about burning those disc, just create your iso like normal and just burn in a DL drive?

what program did you use to burn your DL?

am i not to worry where the layer split occurs or does certain files have to be on certain layers? <

The XBOX in general can read +R, unless you have a Samsung.  You *can* get a Samsung to read +R *if* your burner will allow you to change the booktype to something other than +R. <

OMG ppl its not a thing like "all samsungs can/cant read X brand cd/dvd"
each xbox dvd drive is different i have a xbox philips and a xbox samsung and i have gotten cd-r cd+r cd+rw cd-rw dvd-r dvd+r (never tried dvd +/- rw)
to work on both drives
i have even burned backups to cd not dvd
so dont let anyone tell you they dont work
even if it doesnt work at first you CAN most likely eject it and try again and sometimes it will finally work
i have a QUE! USB2 cd burner (was external now internal) and a HP DVD640 DL light scribe dvd burner i have used "nero" and "record now" to burn and never got one that completly didnt work
you might try a different xbox iso tool
i use simplexiso but i herd qwix is good and xiso is baddddd
i have even burned at high speeds and worked perfect "Fable 16x works"
metal slug 3 on cd
marvel vs capcom on cd
halo multiplayer only on cd
so just try it and see try different programs and find whats best for you

media i have used and works fine:
Memorex dvd+r--\
Memorex dvd-r----\ _____ Memorex is good media  biggrin.gif
Memorex cd-r-----/
Memorex cd+r---/
Verbatim lightscribe cd-r
TDK cd-r
Maxell cd-r
Maxell cd+r

thats all i have on me now but i know i have used other types and brands

hope this helps  smile.gif

PS i have not used DL dvd i just think 29.99 is way to much for 3 discs
i just split the iso and remember to save at the right spot

there is no such thing as cd+r

and for samsungs and +r, yes it is as simple as "all samsungs will not read dvd+r" its in the firmware, it will reject any media with the dvd+r bitsetting

this of course can be circumvented by burning with the dvd-rom bitsetting (not all burners can do this however) <
