It's clear they don't know beans about discs if they are telling you that CMC Mag, TTG02 (TDK) are better than Ritek G04. Ritek G05 definitely has more compatibility issues than Ritek G04. Just ask Mr.Ed how well his G05's treated him compared to his G04s. MCC is a little bit better than Ritek but those are found on Verbatims which are significantly more expensive than Ritek G04 in the UK. I think you might be able to get TY discs for about the same price as the Verbs.

Uh, they got some bad info there. G05 aren't 4x, they are 8x. That sucks that they can be M02 though. M02 is about as worthless as G05. Genuine G04 are the way to go. The problem is that in the UK there are tons of B-Grade Riteks. Stick to Ritek/Ridata for best results.

jesterace, seeing as you seem to know a lot about this, what media do you recommend for DVD-RW or DVD+RW?

All I have is a Pioneer 105. However, I could have a Lite-On and it still wouldn't matter if the discs were factory defective. BTW funny you should mention that about defective G04 discs from meritline as there were a rash of US people last year who complained about defective discs and it turned out that meritline was the culprit (one of the many reasons why I won't touch them). I don't remember the exact details but all I know is that for the people who stuck with rima and newegg, they never got a single disc that was defective (including myself). It doesn't surprise me though. After checking the ratings on the various media stores at
http://www.resellerratings.com
it isn't surprising that rima and newegg stand out from the rest.

Fair enough. The price gap will continue to narrow on the actual TY discs though, so I don't mind.

Yup, Datawrite, Bulqpaq, ect. would never fly here in the US. From what I understand E-net has one hell of a racket going over there.

Yeah, it isn't great but it's not as bad as getting hit for import fees. I'm half tempted to setup my own business and pipe good media into the UK at reasonable prices.

Nope, 4x and 8x Taiyo Yudens are both great. I just go for the 8x ones since that is all rima.com carries and they are usually the best price. The only concern I would have is for the store itself. Meritline doesn't exactly have the largest percentage of satisfied customers. Rima.com has almost a perfect score (check out
http://www.resellerratings.com
. However if you have had nothing but good luck from meritline then it might be worth it to keep using them. I for one will not touch them given the very mixed reviews that they are getting. I have never had a single defective disc from rima and they are very quick at processing orders (very similar to newegg.com). The only other thing I can think of is that it would be a good idea to figure out shipping costs. Sometimes one site can be cheaper for shipping than others.
