Prince Of Persia Slow Video?
« Reply #45 on: November 24, 2003, 07:55:00 AM »

hey all, i had the problem with POP and the slow down, but i somehow fixed it.

im guessing that the game wasnt properly caching files to the hard drive, and it is slowing down because it is trying to.

two things that i did to fix the problem was:
1. empty out the cache folder on the e: partition
2. and i started a game of halo to put files on the x: partition

i dont completely understand the problem in the first place, but thats what i did to get the game working.

i have a 1.0 xbox, w/4977 X2, evox, 45gig HD

How are ppl clearing x y & z drives? I suggest loading 3 different games (other than Pop).

Also goto MS Dash and delete any Pop saves/data there.

Sounded like a great idea, decided to try it.  Deleted the files in the E:cache folder, then ran halo, which created some files on X:

Well, that didn't work.  So, I ran PGR2, which creates some files on z:
Unfortunately, that didn't work either.

I did notice something though.  I compared how the game loaded on my friend's xbox (which plays POP) and mine.  When the game loads the title screen, the sound locks up for a couple of seconds on my xbox.  Nothing of the sort occured on my friend's.  I'm guessing that's the point where the game and the xbox aren't agreeing.  Just an observation, maybe somebody knows something about it.

Was very hopeful after reading this message, tried it but it didn't work sad.gif

It must be something like this though. Let's keep looking guys!

PS On the sound issue mentioned by hwy316: Do you guys possibly have a DD5.1/DTS receiver connected via the digital cable? I do! Just trying to find the common factor here, there must be something that we all have and makes it go wrong.

Check all your settings in your MS dash - esp. your clock. I know other games can lock up totally if you're clock is corrupt, so maybe this is doing something funny like that. Check it, and even if it looks ok, try changing it (try both date AND time).

Also, try with network cable unplugged/plugged (make the change with the Xbox off)

kernel 4034
msdash 4034
evox 3752
Bios on chip 4034
Bios in mem Evox 2.2

I have a softmodded box, stock HD
I have loaded 3 games, cleared cache
haven't tried the network thing...
i am prettysure my clock is right, but i will try to change it through the M$dash
I also have it connected to my HDTV with Component and sound connected through digital coax (don't think this really has anything to do with it.. but what the heck..)

you dont need to use dvd2xbox... just play the game from the disk... if its not slow then it works... cause i have the retail copy and that is even slow.
