Can Phantasy Adapter Be Used For Usb Memorystick?
« on: July 27, 2003, 06:46:00 PM »

In my own personal experience it doesn't work.  I tried that using my 128mb sony microvault, but it keeps showing up on the dashboard as corrupted not allowing me to format it in FATX.  I could be wrong because I believe I heard that you need a smaller drive perhaps 64mb or lower.

I have posted about this in the game save exploit thread please read and give me help......I bought a PNY 64mb usb flash memory drive and it works fine on the pc and fine on the xbox as a memory card I copied some files from my xbox no problem......BUT the problem is when it is formatted to the xbox then I cant use it on the pc it doesnt show up in my computer.....then when I format it with the pc and save something on it then when I plug it back into the xbox it says a message cant remember I posted it in the other thread, then it reformats it back to the xbox and then the pc doesn't show it in my computer agian...........someone please help I will take this back and get action replay tommorrow if I don't get any suggestions.....I think this would better than action replay oif someone can help because the size is so much bigger than 8-16mb and you could probably exploit it more.......by the way I am using winows XP.......I also tried to assign the driver to the memory stick from the action replay program but it will not accept it................HELP

I got mine for 7$ (including shipping) from xboxstore.ffwd.com.  Whomever makes Phantasy Star (don't have my copy handy) made it available, since chat sucks otherwise.  You need the keyboard.

Humaninterface : there's several pieces of software out there that I've read about here - hopefully somebody knows definitely.  Someone mentioned downloading the Action Replay software, I think there's a couple others (Mega X-Key).  You must have one of these - the memory stick/card format is called FatX, and is not compatible with Fat32/NTFS, which is why you can't get it towork.  Options include the AR/MX, there's a fatx driver for linux (but requires (1) Linux, and (2) a Kernel recompile), and I'm hoping there's some sort of mini-driver.

G: yeah, that's pretty much what I've guessed - for the Mega X-Key, at least, you need the 32 meg memory stick.  Not sure about the Action Replay.

And it needs to be 32MB (unless this has changed), and the physical size need to be divisible by 16*1024KB (16384KB) (check it's size in Windows Explorer and show the size as KB not MB).

I had another thought: maybe get one of the bootable linux distros to do fatx.  Then, rather than the Mega X-key or AR, you just mount the memory stick and write to it.  I'm downloading dyne:bolic now, it says it runs on the x-box but I don't know if that means it supports fatx.  With our luck, not.  Next step is seeing if someone can set up a Knoppix version with Fatx support.  (There are directions on the net for doing this).  Then, you boot your PC with Knoppix, write the card, and copy it to your Xbox.  And if dyne:bolic works, then you have a distro ready to run as well!

I'll post my findings- will be a couple of hours.

That's a great idea, mb -- in fact, a friend of mine had suggested it a couple weeks ago and I had completely forgotten. Any word on the results yet?

Unfortunately, stuck due to my own Linux stupidity.  It may indeed work, but what I'm working with isn't a pure memory stick, but a memory card reader.  Which requires drivers.  Grrr...

so I'm stuck for now.  sad.gif
