You aren't actually running XBox games so I can't help.  Some games just don't boot from CDX without calling a different XBE from the one that comes with the game.  Maybe that HomeBrew game and ROM are similar.

So if I was to burn a Xbox game I would put
[game1]
DisplayName="Doom X"
Description="Doom for PC"
Action="Demo"
Preview="images\logo.jpg"
FileName="Doom X\default.xbe"
Attract="0"

change it to Madden2004\default.xbe

and it should work

I see four (!) possiblities.  One, spaces in the names of the Main Menu entries sometimes work, but with other games can cause errors.  Two, you're not remapping to D:.  Again, some games won't run without it.  Also, PreviewVolume.  Put that one in there even if your preview is just an image, or even if you have no preview at all.  Four, don't forget a FontFileName.

Here is my working CDX for GTA3/VC.  I use all these entries in my CDXs for all games.  They may not all be neccessary in all cases, but including them never seems to hurt anything:

CODE

[Config]
AppTitle="Multigame Menu"
FontFileName="d:\cdxmedia\arial.ttf"
AmbientDirectory="d:\cdxmedia\ambient"
CallerTitle=""

[MainMenu]
Gta3
Gtavc

[Gta3]
Action="Demo"
DisplayName="GTA3"
Description="Grand Theft Auto 3"
PreviewVolume="100"
FullScreenVolume="100"
#Preview="cdxmedia\images\snes.png"
RemapPath="1"
FileName="metal\default.xbe"
Attract="0"

[Gtavc]
Action="Demo"
DisplayName="Vice City"
Description="Grand Theft Auto: Vice City"
PreviewVolume="100"
FullScreenVolume="100"
#Preview="cdxmedia\images\nes.png"
RemapPath="1"
FileName="gtavc\default.xbe"
Attract="0"

The only reason the preview images are commented out is that I was too lazy to dig up some images to put on the disc.  Also note that the font is changed in mine.  If you're using the default CDX font, change "arial.ttf" to "arialuni.ttf" in your file.

Oh, and xJTx?  I had the same trouble as you at first.  It could be a number of things, I guess, but in my case, it turned out I was using the XBE from Kung Fu Chaos, while the contents of the CDXmedia directory were from Crimson Skies.  I had done it accidently.  This may not be your problem, but at least it's something else to check if you haven't already thought of it.

Hi bx2a5z,

Yeah that was something I checked and double-checked also.  But even if I didn't, it doesn't explain why the CDX menus from games that have them (eg: Crimson Skies), don't work either.

The only thing that I can think of, or at least the only thing that has changed on my box compared to the time when the demos packed with games worked, was that I loaded a new build of XBMC, and that I loaded the Splinter Cell - Kola Cell mission off an OXM disc.

Now when I try using that disc again, the CDX menus don't work  sad.gif   So I am all out of ideas at the moment.  What does work is Menu X stuff.  Made a disc with Craxtion and that works without problems.

Hi guys,

I will be back in here soon ... I bin reallllllyyyy busy with other stuff ... need to find another server for the Site so the new guyz can get upto speed ...

The site wasn't taken down because of CDX ... it was taken down coz I used ASP pages to get rid of the pop-ups ... they obviously didn't realise that ASP bypassed the pop-ups ... good while it lasted though ... they must of fixed the problem ... hence why the Enter page works ... that's HTML ... not only that I lost my FTP login details for that site  blink.gif so I need to start a fresh ...

'The Nut' that offer still going for some space dude?  wink.gif

cheers

Your FontFileName and AmbientDirectory values point to a location that doesn't exist.

When you load CDX, the XBox mounts the directory containing cdx.xbe D:\.

So, you are running CDX, and then it cannot find E:\

Put cdx.xbe in your E: or F: root folder.
Put the CX support folders in the root folder as well.

So, you should have

E:\cdx.xbe
E:\cdxmedia\

ok?

Now, you will also need to store any games you want to run from a CDX menu on the same drive.  I put mine in a Games folder.  So if you want to run Hitman Contracts, then put it here.

E:\Games\HitmanCon

ok?

I posted some really easy instructions running CDX on the HDD on page 46 of this thread.  If you use E: instead of F: then just change the letter in the instructions.

Hey guys,

Is there a list of games that need ninja.xbe to run from CDX? I found a list on gems site, but the site is down.

Thx,

Going through my INX file, I find

Splinter Cell 2
Bond Everything or Nothing

Those are the only games I have that I have put on my CDX HDD menu.  There are other older games but those are the only new games I have come across.  As a default, you could ALWAYS run every game from ninja.xbe.

This problem is rare.  If a game launches from your Evox menu but not from your CDX menu (HDD only, I guess) then you should be able to assume you need ninja.xbe.

OK guys, have read all the posts and nothing has helped.  The problem is that whenever I try and launch CDX, I am always return to the program that launched it, whether it be the Evox dash or back to the game I ran the demo from (eg: Brute Force)

I had a friend console over the other day as he wanted me to put a new drive into it.  So I thought this would be a great way to troubleshoot this problem.  I tried running the CDX demo from the Brute Force disc and they worked fine on his box.

So I thought it might have been some files store on my box, so I ended up aking the drives look exactly the same (content wise)  The boxes were identical, except for the skin used by evox and the fact that mine uses a Thomson drive whilst his is a philips drive.

After doing all that, I found the CDX menus continued to work on his, but not on mine.  At the point of pulling my hair out now.  Does anyone have any suggestions  uhh.gif

Read the last 2-4 pages of this thread.  Someone else had a similar problem and fixed it.

Why won't they work for you?  What are they doing wrong when you try to launch?  Are you launching from a DVDR or a HDD?

Did you try using the Ninja technique?  (Put ninja.xbe in the same folder as the game's default.xbe and call the ninja.xbe instead of the default.xbe from CDX.  When ninja.xbe cannot find its required accompanying files, it will automatically launch the default.xbe in the same directory and the game will launch.  I have heard that cdx.xbe will also work in place of ninja.xbe but have not tested such.  I'd assume it would work, since launching cdx.xbe from CDX will result in the 2nd instance not finding the cdxmedia folder, etc.)
