Xbox 1.6 Xcalibur Video, Games, Force 480i

I don't know for certain that this works with the 1.6, but.....

With SID 5.1 and Kingroach NDURE 3.1 it's easy. You create a text file containing a single 0 (that's zero), and call it video.bin. For Kingroach you put it in E:\NKP11\ while for SID 5.1 you bypass shadow C and put it in C:\SID5\ on the real C partition.

However, I'm not sure how you do it for SID 4.52.

Unless you get a reply from someone who knows the detail of how to make SID 4.52 work at a low level, your best bet is to update to Kingroach NDURE 3.1 (follow the instructions in the Kingroach manual chapters 4 and 5 to build a new softmod file set, then bypass shadow C and use FTP to replace the files), then use the video.bin method. Make sure you backup your eeprom before you start.

With SID you may not even have shadow C (it allows you to install without one), but if you do have shadow C and can't figure out which SID tools to use to bypass it, just boot with Frosty's Rescue disc.

Maybe my post wasn't clear enough. SID 4.52 doesn't have a C:\SID5\ folder, and even if you put one there the softmod doesn't look in there for video.bin or for any other file. Have a look at the tools that came with SID 4.52, see if any of them explain how to change the video mode. If not, then you need to install another softmod, and Kingroach is ideal for an FTP installation.

If you have a SID5 folder then You used SID 5, taken from AID 4.52........... rolleyes.gif

Three possibilities:
1. your video.bin file isn't right
2. SID5 hasn't implemented full support for video.bin
3. force 480i doesn't work on 1.6 Xboxes

To check 1, The easiest way to make video.bin in Windows is with notepad, then rename the file - just make sure that you have Explorer set to display file extensions (Tools - Folder Options - View, then uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

If it's 2 then you need to use another softmod.

If it's 3 then there's nothing you can do!

video.bin can only force 480p

you need to make sure all HD setting are off in the MS dash with the virtual EPROM disabled

use E:\EEPROM_off.bin or E:\NKP11\EEPROM_off.bin

then make sure XBMC is not set to use HD settings

I know I can play these games in 480i in the duel boot microsoft retail dash
are you sure, then i would try evox (as the boot dash) to run the games and see if it works that way (it knows\does nothing to change HD settings)

if that does not work then you must have a virtual EEPROM with HD settings enabled

OR

SID was compiled with force 480p and the video.bin (with a "0") was not in the correct path
