the projector does sync on green

I built a vga cable without the chip based on the tutorials here.  I get a good picture at ntsc169 setting in xbmc, but when i try to switch to 720p or 1080i the picture is all blurred.  If i use my monster 400 cable, the picture looks great at 720p and 1080i.  Why is my vga cable not giving great results as well?

the wire that i used is insulated.  

I am worried cause I wanted to just put the vga female adapter directly in the xbox and bypass the cable, but if i cant get good results with the cable why bother?
