Vga Cable_with_scart Option
« on: May 04, 2008, 09:04:00 PM »

hello,

I plan on adding VGA to my 1.4 xbox , however i would like the option to go back to scart OR composite.
Therefore i plan on a CABLE mod as a aposed a internal vga mod( inside the xbox)

I am currenlty running x2 4891 bios, and since my xbox is a version 1.4 im limited to 256mb as its
a TSOP flash.

I would also consider the new x2 5039 by frosty, as a BFM (boot from media) for better features?

OR

aslong as the TV- scart/comp is in green then i can always go and select it via a dashboard?

ANYWAY,

here is a mess i'v made, no idea why i did this then got stuck

All i did was cut the end off a vga cable , then I realized i have no idea which cable is which (inside the VGA cable!)

i dont have a multi-meter, i think i brought the wrong one?? pictured here

now, i have a composite xbox cable as well as a xbox scart cable (also have a adapter to change compsite to scart)

i have noticed a post on http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/Xbox_VGA_HOWTO
saying "I recommend that you get a cheap Xbox SCART adapter, remove the SCART plug and solder a VGA plug."

heres some pic's of my current cables

(IMG:http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn187/mcbeat1290/XBOX_SCART.jpg)

I nearly forgot to metioned!, i am assuming i have a SOG moniter its not listed on the
ps2 guide, but im sure it should be ok, i hope lol, if not i'l start agen! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

my questions are,

what's my best option since i have a scart cable should i just use that?- are xbox scart cables correclty
solidered at the AVIP end? (forsty says use 2-3)

can i use linux with frostys vga bios, as i read it needs 1-3 NOT 2-3 ?

TIA

Frosty has what you need my friend. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

NOTE: This has NOT been tested, but should work just fine. (I live in the US, so I don't actually have any SCART devices to test it with...)

NOTE 2: Please report back if this diagram works properly for you, as I have had many requests for a cable like this. Go slow, make sure all your connections are correct, and it should work just fine. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

USAGE: Simply flip the switch when your XBOX is turned off to switch between video modes. All my VGA BIOSes should support both modes just fine.

HI FrostyTheSnowman!!

for my first go, i just want to add a VGA connection instead of scart!
my scart cable AVIP end- includes optical out and i'v already ruined two other cables!
so i dont want to open the AVIP on my scart lead

so from the infomation on the

saying "I recommend that you get a cheap Xbox SCART adapter, remove the SCART plug and solder a VGA plug."

would it not be possible to just remove the scart end and then add a vga connecter?
this would assume the AVIP is already solidered correclty?

this would allow me a easy mod, and includes a avip with OPTICAL !

thanks for replying

pics, PS: there some "things" inside the scart connecter!??

I'm not sure that I have a Sync on Green monitor, but I quite fancy making myself one of these. I guess I need an LM1881 or other de-syncer chip, but please could you point out how I would modify the cable design above to accomodate the de-syncer without disabling the Scart connection on the lead?

I'm guessing that the score would be to take a fly lead off the purple cable on Pin 1 of the X-Box connector, and a fly lead off the Green cable on Pin 22, and then hook onto Pin 24, and wire up as per Leelo5's stickied diagrams, but if you could confirm or correct, I'd be grateful. Also, would it matter if I took my fly lead on the purple cable after the 180 Ohm resistor?

Thanks.

Will report back on any success.
