OK.....I take it you know how to FTP, from you saying you tried to restore the dash yourself.

Try this....look through the xbox's hdd folders and locate "msdash.xbe"...throw it into your Apps folder on your E drive.

Reboot box....launch it from evox or whatever dash you want.

Hope this helps.

Read DaddyJ's "the Art of Hotswapping" and the FAQ. After that, hotswap to a PC IDE connection and rename the xbe back with xplorer360 beta 6.

ok...

get the game splinter cell

get action replay or seach for a rare tutorial that teaches you how to use flash drives as a memory card, etc.

once u find a way to transfer saves from pc to xbox, transfer two saves found in a free package, SID 5 (softmod installer deluxe)

you see, xboxs don't need dashboards to boot games from a disk, because i've done it before without a dashboard at all.

boot splinter cell

go to the profile "linux" (should already be there)

go to load checkpoints i think? (it's been awhile sorry)

it will boot the installer

now, instead of installing the softmod, use the built-in filemanager included in SID 5 to rename your xbe back to normal.

I know this will all work, because it has happened to me. cheers.

sorry guy, but that wont work

you need to be able to get into a dashboard to transfer the game save to the hard drive first.

you cant load the game save from the memory card
(to the best of my knowledge)

if you still have the guys email you obught it from, ask him which game he used to softmod it...if you are lucky, the game save is still on the system, then you can use that to get ftp access to your xbox and change your file name back

First off.....I NEVER said rename your xbe. Secondly......If your trying this on a 360 you dont need to be doing any of this. You cant softmod a 360.

Lastly.....it already has the mod setup......put the splinter cell game in the drive( if SC was used to do the softmod....if not find out what game was used, and buy it), power off, then restart with game in dvd drive....hit start game....then "linux".....this should take you to a whatever dash your mod is using and allow FTP access.

Go back and rename the xbe to xboxdash.xbe. renaming is ALWAYS stupid if you dont know how it will effect things. Copy and transfer xboxdash.xbe to the apps folder and launch your MS Dash from it.

And watch who you throwing all caps at.....

P.S........Read up on anything you dont understand before you brick something.

ok.....you shouldnt need action replay.     if the xbox was already softmodded the save files are already on it. (no need for A.R.)

Whom ever you got it from (off craigslist) should be able to tell you what game was used to install the softmod. email him to find out.....or trial-n-error, by that i mean, buy(or rent?) all 3 games needed to install mod. you have the S.C. already. the others are 007 and mechassault.

put the splinter cell game in the drive( if SC was used to do the softmod....if not find out what game was used, and buy it), power off, then restart with game in dvd drive....the game will boot up just fine cause it will bypass the dash...... start game....then select the "linux" profile.....this boots up the softmod installer

use the file browser in the installer package  to change back your xbe filename.

that fixes the "not-booting thing".....if you still wanna be able to boot the MS dash....after restoring that xbe file name, copy the file into the Apps folder in the E partition....that way after you restart the xbox and it goes to the dash you use....go to your Applications and you will see MS dash. launch it from there.

when you get to it... go under settings and change your settings to HD.

Did I miss anything, anyone?..... uhh.gif

Whoa,

I remember when  accidentally renamed a .XBE from my HD and
my Xbox was not booting at all anymore.

Then, I just inserted the AID (Auto Installer Deluxe) DVD and - since
the BIOS says to XBOX to autoboot a DVD on drive when it is detected,
I was able to enter on AID tools.

Inside there, you can turn ON a FTP service, or even run a file manager
- if i am not wrong, to rename your .XBE back to it's original name.

It was simple for me.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Cospefogo.

13 and 14 are pretty much the same thing." cant load dash"

if you are still getting dash error code, you arent starting up with the game (or AID) in the DVD drive.

the xbox will not attempt to boot to dash with a game in the DVD drive. it boots up through the "flubber" screen....then loads the game.

you should get someone else to fix that thing then never, ever, ever try tinkering with it again.

you asked how to get the MS dash to load....i told you how to launch it , and you renamed the xbe.
you asked how to fix that.....i told you how to gain ftp access through the original mod installer, twice, but somehow you get a "cant load dash" code trying to boot from the game

i give up.....use google or the search from this site or buy the idiots guide to softmodding an xbox

to my knowlage you cant install a chip....then remove it and the xbox still be modded. it either still has a chip.....or it is softmodded.

I think you have to set the xboxs HD settings in the MS Dash first. Once enabled there.....change it in the system settings of XBMC. find it under system>Video options.....then you have to change XBMC's screen resolutions. thats under appearance. Hope this helps.
