5.1 Surround Sound
« on: January 31, 2008, 11:33:00 PM »

1. Using a 5.1 receiver/amp - Very costly £200-300 for an amp and I only want surround sound for the xbox rather than having various devices connected.

Is there any sort of 5.1 receiver made specifically to allow consoles surround sound or a receiver with more basic functions, most of the receivers I've seen have many extra flashy features allowing multiple devices to be connected TV, DVD, PC. I just want to be able to get 5.1 on the xbox

2. Using a 5.1 PC sound card and having the xbox connected to it in order to use speakers it outputs too.

What kind of Sound card will I need if I'm going down that route?

I've seen DVD players with built in support for 5.1CH output, I'm assuming this means they have some kind of built in receiver, is it possible to route the xbox through this in order to utilize the 5.1 capability it has?

Can an xbox be connected directly to a speaker system that has Coaxial/Optical sockets without the need for a separate reciever?

thanks in advance
