Projector Connections
« on: December 03, 2007, 10:21:00 AM »

I have a NEC NP 40 Projector  - ceiling mounted.  It has VGA, S-Video, and Audio In (single) ports.  I want to hook my XBox 360 to it - so I think I would need a cable that is 25ft long that will plug into my VGA port on the back of my projector and hook up to the XBox.

From what I can find - I will need a HD-15 VGA (male) to VGA (female) cable, hooked to my XBox 360 VGA cable - is that correct?

According to Projector Central the NEC NP40 supports Component video.. since you said it only has a VGA port it's safe to assume that it support Component Video via adapter through the VGA port

http://www.projector...om/NEC-NP40.htm

For the best compatibility with the Xbox instead of using a VGA transcoder or a semi-supported VGA bios you would be much better served to simply use Component Video out with the appropriate adapter for your projector.

Use something like this:

*Most projectors re purpose the VGA port to accept Component video signals as well, AFAIK it's the only display devices that do this, and it is usually done on the small or cheaper projectors for space and cost savings... These "adapters" wont work on moitors or other types of displays.

Since the cable terminates in RCA connectors you'll want to either use this with a Gen1 Component cable (that features a breakout box that accepts these kinds of connectors) or the Gen2 component cable (that was a heavy duty cable that was straight through Xbox AVIP connector to RCA connectors) to a component Video switch.

if you're looking for a component video switch I highly recommend the Psyclone PSC-01
