Enabling Hd Modes Without Ms Dash?
« on: October 11, 2007, 04:04:00 PM »

I finally made the jump to a 42" LCD HDTV and I want to hook up my softmodded Xbox to it.  I've got a set of component cables.

Unfortunately, everything I read says I need to go into the MS Dash to enable the HD modes. Unfortunately, with my softmod, I don't have the MS Dash backed up and no way to load it.

I do however, have the latest version of XBMC T3CH installed and noticed I can change the options (480p, 720p, 1080i) with the video settings. Is that change global (ie, the same as the setting in the MS Dash) or just for XBMC?

Am I screwed and stuck with 480i because of the softmod?  unsure.gif

Short answer is no, only the m$ dash can change it.

The options in XBMC can only be changed once they are enabled in the M$ Dash.

The long answer is i'm sure it's possible, there must be some file hidden on the hdd that you can change. However, to my knowledge, no one bothered finding it cuz everyone just uses the M$ Dash.

FYI, there are places to find the M$ Dash elsewhere on the internet. I've never needed it so I don't know, and I wouldn't suggest asking here as I'm sure it's not allowed to be discussed.

Best Wishes...

Well, unless I'm missing something, it appears that the latest T3CH version of XBMC can change the resolution without the MS Dash.

I can set widescreen, 480p, 720p, and 1080i in XBMC and it appears to the global setting. When I restart into Avalaunch, the settings are in place and Xbox games, emulators, and XBMC look great.

MX vs ATV looks amazing in 720p. Unfortunately, some of my favorite games don't run very well at 720p.
